I saw the sale at midway on the Weaver Grand Slam 3-10x40 mil/mil scope and I haven't been able to find much on it. Lowlight did a video on it and he seemed to like the scope, but I am torn between this scope and the Super Snipers, particularly the fixed 10x version. I have asked this in two other threads already, with no responses yet, but I feel many others probably have the same question.

Could someone with experience with both scopes please give their opinions on them? Thanks.

The closest SS model to the Weaver 3-10x40 (I assume that's what you are talking about?) is the 3-9x42SS, which is an FFP scope. The Weaver is only 56 moa, and it is risky to use with 20 moa bases, as you might run out of adjustment (this arrived to a member of the hide a couple of months ago). The SS glass is better. If you can swing the price, the SS 3x9 is definitely a superior choice, and is available for abt $540 with the coupon.

The regular SS 10x is good, with a lot more adjustment than the Weaver. But the SS 10x glass is not as good as the SS 3x9 glass. Between the Weaver and the 10x SS, I give the edge in glass to the SS - but I have an older SS circa 1998 or so, the later ones might be quite a bit better.

All in all, my vote is in for the SS 3x9.

If I were looking for a "cheap" scope to use until I could get something better my choices would be Bushnell 10X, SS10X, Weaver 3-10 in that order.

If you want a variable just save up a few more bucks and get the super sniper 3-9 like the above guy suggested.

I got the SS 10xHD despite the cost since any ST-10 I was configuring was 2x the price. And I would have to commit myself to optics rehab for spending that much on a .22/.223 floater scope.

$747 aint cheap but I dont feel like I overpaid. SWFA is a sure bet.

u may have a tough time finding folks w firsthand experience with both. ive handled the weaver, seems decent enough.

over the past few years ive tried most of the budget scopes, all of which failed on me - aint bashin anything, probably just my luck. ive got 3 super snipers, 2 rear focus 10xs, and a 10xHD, all of which have been flawless, along w the other 3 10xs owned by shootin buddies. another friend just bought a 16x, and hes impressed. the Lr school i attended recomends the SS as well.

yea the old 10x aint mil/mil, but they work and hold their value well if u ever want to sell them.

pick whichever SS u like and have fun

Of course that's what I'm talking about, that's what I said lol

No, I am talking about the SS 10x, NOT the 3-9. the 3-9 is $600... the scopes I'm talking about are both exactly half that price.

I'm not surprised to hear that, but I was looking to spend $300 unfortunately.

Thanks for your help. I just looked at the weaver again and someone mentioned they got the scope based on advice here on the hide and said they were happy with it. I hope I don't run out of adjustment as I just ordered a 20 MOA picatinny for my .308. I don't need it, but everyone here said a flat base has no benefits... guess thats not quite true lol. Might be ok anyway though.

Well, you also wrote 3-9x40 in your first post:)

If you can get the Weaver working on your 20moa base you will enjoy it. Good luck!

I don't own that Weaver but I do own others including a Grand Slam. I also own three Super Snipers. The Super Sniper 3-9 is much better. You can get blank knobs, to send to Kenton, and sunshades for the Super Sniper. These items are not avaiable for the Weaver. The Super Sniper 3-9 is FFP and the Weaver is SFP. I'd get the Super Sniper.

This is not a discussion on the SS 3-9 and the weaver 3-10x40. There isn't much point to compare a $600 to a $300 scope in my opinion.

WestOfPecos, I am sorry you are right, I read my comment over three times and didn't even notice my error. Thanks.

For who may be wondering Lowlight highly recommended the 3-9 SS as well as the 10x HD, but felt that he might like the Weaver better than the SS10x non-hd and that the Weaver might be better for me. I'm just looking for some other opinions is all to make the most educated buy.

PS, I shot an M1 garand for the first time today and loved it. I was really impressed that there is hardly any recoil. It knocks me off target a bit but it would take many, many more rounds to make my shoulder sore than my .308. I think I might have to get one for myself for christmas, but first I think I'll go for the weaver.
