It is the XLR chassi with a different butt stock. Tell me what you think about it. It's just a rough draft of the stock I thought of to use the XLR chassi and make it into a tactical rifle stock (kinda). Drawings were done on autocad.

Re: New XLR buttstock design

That looks cool as hell but personally, if I were going to modify an XLR stock(which I don't see any reason I would) I think it would be the tube. Put a handle on it like a Cheytac. That would add more to it than a butt stock. If you can do it, I hope you will be prepared to build me one too

I see what you're saying... hmm looks like a new design prob ha....
I was trying to get more like a rifle feeling stock instead more of an ar maybe I will tweek it some for that.

Re: New XLR buttstock design

I like the fact that you have tossed traditional notions of what a stock looks like in pursuit of function. Triangles are inherently the strongest shapes known and two hinge points would make for a very rigid folder (there I go with that folder thing again)

Butthook in this design would be hard would have to look at some more. Yes I knew that the triangle was the strongest shape just figuring out a way to make it work would be best.

Make that fold to the right and I will buy it.

I would too, but XLR would need to make it. Hopefully they start looking at this design and make it. I'll talk to them and maybe they can.

Re: New XLR buttstock design

Yeah I'd love that. I am going to talk to XLR industries. These hopefully get enough hype that they actually do make it.

im pretty sure if it folds to the right itll bump or at least has the chance of being in conflict with the bolt knob

Very true. Folding to the left would be best, but making it into a folding stock would also add quite a bit of money to the stock.

Re: New XLR buttstock design

I'm still looking, And I can't see how these look that much alike. Just shot a TRG this weekend, not even close....Although, the Bell and Carlson A5 is the closest thing to a TRG

Re: New XLR buttstock design

I knew they did. You also have to pay extra for it. I'm not a fan of the folding stocks. I don't care if you say there is no movement in them I would like a fixed stock so I wouldn't have to worry about the stock working when it needs to work. In my experiences whenever something bad that can go wrong for me... does. If I can eliminate one thing I would. Folding stocks are nice and they offer it. I'm not sure if XLR could so called "copy" the Cheytac's buttstock/handle due to patent reasons.

Re: New XLR buttstock design

XLR has done a damn good job of not copying too much from anybody. I think the Cheytac buttstock looks like shit anyways, although that's just my opinion. Your designs are definitely unique as well and they all look great and would be a cool upgrade/modification to the already cool XLR. Do you plan on making just one or would you make them per request?

Re: New XLR buttstock design

Umm I have no part in making them I am a regular person like you trying to get a chassi from XLR that would fit with a stock I like and others also. I have no ties with XLR just saw their chassi liked it and decided on my own time design some stocks that would hopefully take off. I told the guy on this forum who works with XLR to take a look at some of them to see if they could make a different type of stock. More variety= more buyers.

Re: New XLR buttstock design

The XLR buttstock is pretty great as it is. That said I can see how a JAE style buttstock that eliminates the pistol grip would be cool.
Here is my final stock setup on my 300wm.

xlrStockFinal.jpg

After running a magpul MOE for a while I had kyle modify my enidine recoil buffer tube or accept his adjustable butt pad and cheek rest (very effective, simple and comfortable design). The length of the folding mechanism and tube pushed the cheek rest a little too far back (I'm not a very big guy), so I very easily modified a magpul cheek riser to attach securely to the aluminum rest and it gave me another 1 3/4" of cheek space. I then covered it with pac-skin and the whole setup is very comfortable. I also added a rubber bumper on the cheek adj. bolt to take out the movement/rattle when the stock is folded. Besides some sort of more ergonomic offhand hook (still mulling is over), I dont think it could get any better. My father and I have both fired it and agree... with the brake and enidine shooting 180gr hornady superformance the recoil is similar to an sks/ak or even a m1 carbine. You feel the movement of the gun, but the kick is EXTREMELY mild. I have not found the compression of the tube to have any adverse effects on accuracy either.
To get back OT, its great to see you working on ideas and I would never want to discourage that sort of thing since that is how great products begin. With that in mind, I dont really see how the tactical stock with more butt options then just about anything out there I can think of could really benefit from another option.... no matter how cool it is. It would make sense if you could build it for yourself, but production of such a piece would be quite an undertaking that conflicts with the simplicity of the XLR.
As always...2 thumbs up for kyle @ XLR!

Re: New XLR buttstock design

I understand your post totally. XLR is supposed to be a simple chassi system and it is. That's why I like it so much and hope they take some new ideas and make it customizable and keep their customer service the way it is and they way a business should keep it. I have talked to XLR quite a bit about their stocks and they know what they are doing.
