So to get a license you have to take these classes but you don't have a permit when you take the class so you are in possession without a license

For those that don’t know (like I didn’t), Suffolk County, NY is part of Long Island (New York City metro).
If the video is accurate, they have more hoops to jump through for a handgun, than Kansas’ totality of firearms laws. Ridiculous.
A policy that violates the US Constitution is not a legitimate policy and should not be followed. Easy. I hope the lawsuit goes well, but based on where it’s at, I won’t hold my breath. The coasts are pretty much a lost.

The initial part of pre training is the shooters fault.
Everyone knows in Suffolk county you can’t even touch a pistol with out a license been like that for decades.
If you have a license..
Go to gun store
Show license (no license no touch).
Get pistol out of case..finger it
Pay for it
Go to precinct out east towards the “forks of the island”
They check out your license etc
They print sn on you license
You then go bank and pick up pistol from shop
Then go back to precinct and they double check it’s the right one.
Been that process for 40 years.
Anything else and your breaking the law.
I don’t think you can even bring your pistol home before it goes for the check out.

It’s actually easy to get a license, people just complain about it.
It’s one page double sided. Prob 20 questions if that. And you need to get your driving history in the mail which takes 2 weeks.
Usually takes about 2-6 months with a interview in the middle somewhere.
Unless your a moron you get the license. I do t know anyone who got rejected.
My late father was an NRA certified instructor here in NY some time ago. When you took the course from him, you fired both a .22 semi-auto and a 1911 .45. You left the class with a solid understanding of handguns.
Last year, a friend had taken the course. I asked her what type of gun she fired during taking that course, "We never touched a gun", she said. I said "what"?. How are you supposed to walk out of these classes with an understanding of how a handgun behaves when firing it ?

thats when instructors were actually teaching about firearms and safety
this latest round of "classes" is just a money grab by anyone who has the credentials because its a hours/paperwork requirement for the state
you can still find both in one stop, but it seems that it has broken into 2 categories
We are in the process of implementing these "licensing courses" at our club. None of us really agree with the premise but the concept of making it possible for people to obtain their handguns outweighs our personal feelings.
That’s not too bad.
Almost as easy as going to a one day class wherein, if you’ve chosen well, you will learn the fine details of carry in your state. Then you fire about 50 rounds to show that you have the actual ability to not kill yourself while handling the pistol you already own legally.
At the end, you get your fingerprints and photo together with the form that you fill out in class and put it all in the envelope provided and put it all in the mail. About 2 weeks later, assuming that you are not restricted from owning by a felony conviction, you receive your seven year carry license in the mail. It’s reciprocal with twenty something other states.
Oh, and no specific license required to actually own the firearm, so no entrapment bullshit either.
I can see the comparison.

kind of makes sense, as NY is a shitty for firearms but ive never heard of anyone losing their license and i know 3 guys who went to jail (from the morning gym). they had to surrender their pistols but when they got out they picked them up.
Just think my family fought the Tories in the Battle of Monmouth just to have them return in the form of Marxists. Got up this morning shoved my appendix carry in my pants and walked out the door, got no stinking License and none is required.
