Dear Gurus,

I have been lurking in the forums for a while now and after researching equipment, I have just purchased a Rem 700p with a Millett TRS 5x15 scope (S&B PMII w/P4 will be next), Nightforce 20 MOA mount and a Harris bipod to get started. I am using Remington .300 RUM Premier Core-Lokt Ultra, Power Lever II (don't know how to reload yet) and I am using the Ballistic FTE program on my iPhone.

I have put together a one-pager with ballistic information and mil-dot hold-over data but I am not sure if it is correct. Can somebody please take a quick look and let me know if I have done any mistakes?

Here is the PDF:

Thank you very much for the help!

Regards,
Audi

Re: Newbie question re. mil-dot and holdover

Your link didn't work for me. I need more info. What adjustments does your scope turret have- mils, IPHY (inch per hundred yards), MOA?
I assume the 180 grain bullet at 2980 fps with a BC of .395. Here's a quick estimate with standard condidtions and a scope hieght of 1.75" and 10 mph wind.

Range Velocity Elev Wind
(yards) (ft/sec) (mil) (mil)
0 2980 --- ---
100 2740.2 0 0.22
200 2513.2 -0.41 0.45
300 2298.4 -1.07 0.7
400 2094.1 -1.86 0.98
500 1900.3 -2.79 1.28
600 1718.8 -3.86 1.61
700 1550.8 -5.11 1.97
800 1399.1 -6.55 2.37
900 1267.7 -8.24 2.79
1000 1159 -10.2 3.25

Re: Newbie question re. mil-dot and holdover

Hi Chad,

Thanks for the info. Here is a link that works. I have 1/4" adjustments on the scope.

Thanks,
Audi

Re: Newbie question re. mil-dot and holdover

Yes, that chart looks ok. But the velocity reads 2980 on the ammo, and 2766 on your chart. That makes a big difference at distance. So, it's a guess at your come-ups, honestly. You'll need to shoot it in the field to know what your exact hold overs/come-ups are.

This should be close from a 100 yard zero. For dialing, if you need to take a 500 yard shot, I'd dial to 10 IPHY (inch per hundred yards) on my scope. So, 40 clicks, but don't call it "clicks".

Range Drop Windage
(yd) (Clicks) (Clicks)
0 1/4" 1/4"
100 0 0.8
200 -1.5 1.6
300 -3.8 2.5
400 -6.6 3.5
500 -9.9 4.6
600 -13.8 5.8
700 -18.2 7.1
800 -23.4 8.5

For your mil hold overs, this will get you close from a 100 yard zero.
