Rifle Scopes Next better SFP scope than Viper?

I have been planning on buying a Vortex Viper. It costs $399.00 for the 6.5x20x44. I have more to spend than I had originally planned on. Is there a better scope around $1k that is worth the extra money or is the Viper good enough that the next step is something like the NF or IOR or USO level of quality?
I guess what I need to know is if a scope that costs twice as much is worth it? What is the next step up? The PST line isn't realistically available yet.
A SFP scope will be ok for what I will be doing. If there isn't a scope that fits I will stay with buying a Viper. Maybe a 50mm instead of the 44mm.

I think Viper is you best bet under 1k. I would get the Viper and save for a Nightforce.

Thanks. I really appreciate the Seekins link. I have been trying to find a set of rings under $150.00 and somehow missed those. I have a Farrell 20moa mount.

Since the PST's aren't out yet, can't make a determination. But IMO the next tier would be the Sightron SIII's in the $7-800 range. The only thing that seems to be holding Sightron back is limited reticle choices, reticle/knobs don't match, tall covered turrets. If Sightron had these features, I think the PST's would be DOA.

What do you mean the PST's are realistically avialable? They should be ready in a month which isn't very long to wait... just saying. I put my pre-order in today for the Viper PST and can't wait to put it on top of my rifle! Read the reviews they're supposed to be the cats meow...

I will have to think about that. If I get on the list what is the estimated wait? I wonder if they will be in stock then too.

I also agree, it sounds like you've found what you want/need in the Viper. They are well made for the money, so long as you're happy with MOA turrets and SFP.

I wish I could gets turrets matched to a reticle in IPHY. I read about that a while back and as a civilian sport shooter I think easier in inch per hundred yards.
I can deal with moa turrets and SFP. If I do get serious abour LR shooting I can save up for a NF or USO.

The word I got from CS tactical is they have more ordered and on the way than there are pre-orders, those who pre-ordered are going to have first preference in order of pre-order menthod... IE: Paid in full first, then pre-ordered with deposit, and then pre-ordered with no money down. They should be available middle to late June and if more scopes are left over from the order they will be offered up for sale.

Not sure how many Vortex are going to be stockpiling on their production end so no one is real sure when a second order will be coming through...

This'll be my first tactical scope and I'm pretty stoked about it!
