Rifle: NIB Remington 700 XCR compact tactical 223
Problem: bolt is very difficult to close when chambering a round fed normally(from mag). The rim of the cartridge is chewed up when extracted .Remove bolt, clip a round in the bolt face and feed it manually bolt closes like butter.
I assumed it was a bad extractor, called Remington explained the problem they agreed. New extractor came in replaced it = same problem!
Now this rifle has Remington's nitride coating. The entire bolt, lugs boltface and all are coated as well.
Could the coating on the boltface be causing the problem?

The problem is still the extractor. You didn't need a new one. You needed to break in the original one or polish it to smooth it. Feed a couple hundred rounds through it and the problem will go away.

Why doesn't rem fix this with the 223's? We get this thread at least twice a month.
