Shooting a pistol at night with night vision seems to be about impossible without a laser. IR lasers are controled by the .gov which makes them difficult to come by. question is....does anyone make one of those tiny red dot sights for on a pistol that get dim enough to use with a pvs-14?

Hmmm, Well, I've modified a few - you can see how to do it here...
Modifying a cheap reflex sight for NV use.

You can also probably make a really small NV scope to fit a pistol if you really wanted...

Better to use a laser. You don't need an IR laser - just a powered down red-laser... It will be almost invisible at the target side, but quite bright to the NV.

Re: Night vision and pistol shooting

Since I got my 14 a couple days ago I've been playing with it and lastnight I tried it out with a pistol and was able to make good hits with the front night sight. I set the focus on the target and just look for the front night sight to be a nice big blob in the middle of the target and squeeze the trigger.

Check with this guy. I was going to buy a TLR-2 but he was unable to get the IR light done.

Re: Night vision and pistol shooting

My thoughts were using the PVS 14 with head or helmet mount and lasermax red laser mounted on pistol. Anyone tried this yet and successful and if not why not. Still a newbie to NV and just trying to make it as versatile as possible
