A mate of mine asked me to post this up here for him. He's running a barrett m98b .338lap with barrett rings and a nightforce as above with high speed turrets and zerostop. After zeroing the rifle at 200m the other day we set the zerostop as per the manual and online instructional vids and to test it we decided to run the elevation turret up a few rotations and then see if it came back to the zerostop and to zero well. This is where we hit a problem though. The elevation turret will only go up 6mils ( not even one full rotation). Now granted that will get the .338lap out pretty far but it seems really weird to me that that's as far as it goes. Is this normal or am I right in saying this is an issue?

Seems like possibly we used up too much elevation to zero it? Would I one piece mount with some moa in it sort this out?

Any thoughts, tips or hints would be great.

Cheers

Re: Nightforce 8x32-56 not much elevation?

Typically the higher the magnification, the less internal adjustment. My Nightforce 3.5-15X50 has 110 MOA of internal adjustment.
A one piece mount with 20 MOA would definately get you mroe elevation. He may be able to get a riser made with 30-40 MOA cant to maximize your elevation.

Re: Nightforce 8x32-56 not much elevation?

Sounds strange to me to not get even one revolution of elevation. How many mils of elevation did you need to get her zeroed ? The 98B is similar to the MRAD and I believe the rail should already have a 30 MOA cant. I think you did some thing wrong on your set up or your scope has a problem. You should go back and start from the beginning.

Re: Nightforce 8x32-56 not much elevation?

We did pull it all apart and check it again. Even if we don't set up the zero stop its the same and only giving us 6mils elevation. Does anyone know if there is elevation built into the m98b upper? I've done a fair bit of research and I can't find an answer to that either. Sorry for my ignorance but when you say "get a riser made up" what do you mean by that? Anyone have a pic of what they look like?

Thanks for all the help and responses so far

Re: Nightforce 8x32-56 not much elevation?

You have a problem there somewhere, would suggest you call NF.

I have a NSX 8-32x NF with the same ZS and speed turret and have shot it out to 1k. It’s an MOA/MOA scope and I was zero in at 100 yards. With this setup on a 20MOA rail, I was able to dial over 43 MOA to get to 1k with no problem.

There is 3.438 MOA per Mil and so this means you should be able to dial close to 12.7 mils. If you are getting only 6 mils that is about half of what you should get. Call NF, they are pretty good about talking you through your problems.

Re: Nightforce 8x32-56 not much elevation?

Did find the 98B rail is flat so more mils used to zero, but I still feel the problem is in the scope, so agree with jlow you should contact Nightforce before wasting anymore time. Good luck.

Re: Nightforce 8x32-56 not much elevation?

We have several 8-32X56 NXSs on the McMillan TAC-338 in our armory. They have 17.7Mil elev. and 12.3Mil wind, you should not be having any problem with them.
I'd ask what specific mount setup are you using and tell you for a .338 we zero at either 400 or 600 meters.

Re: Nightforce 8x32-56 not much elevation?

Well my mate has emailed nightforce so we'll just have to see what they say. The rings are standard barrett rings with 0moa in them. I'll post back and let everyone know the outcome from barrett but at this stage as most of you guys are saying I reckon there's an issue.
