The vast majority of real world sniper systems in the U.S. both Law Enforcement and Military have done just that. I certainly don't think that makes Leupold better. I think it shows they are not as bad as some make them out to be. Obviously, they get the job done. I don't have any particular love for Leupold over NightForce. I just have more experience with Leupold than I do NightForce, both at work and at home. I think NightForce makes a great scope.

Sorry I should have said I can't fathem putting a leopold on one of my tactical rifles ... I accept that theye may be widley used but by who ? The Sas ? Usmc sinpers ? Are theye being used by elite snipers ? Just curious ...I have nf but I'm by no means byast either way I just by the best I can and I call a spade a space I seek the truth .. I know and accept that there's better scopes out there then nf is leopold one of them from my experience definatly not... like I said that's from the ones I've seen ow and rob01 srry I meant to post my last comment on another thread with a similar name over and out I o

They're widely used because leupold can crank them out in volume & they give discounts to military, LE, etc as well as the company being more or less based in the US. And the models that LE/Mil usually use, ie the 10X M3 have been made for awhile and are proven. It's not a S&B PM2 but it will do the job.
If you're just joe nobody and you don't have a mil or LE discount then leupold retail pricing is ludicrous and you are better off going with something else.

I'm are really big fan of Nightforce, with that said I have tested out a Leupold Mark 4 M5 and I have to say I'm really happy with it. I will be doing more reviews on it.

I'm are really big fan of Nightforce, with that said I have tested out a Leupold Mark 4 M5 and I have to say I'm really happy with it. I will be doing more reviews on it.

i feel leupold is a company that has lost its way. when i researched scopes i found people saying leups do not track, up to %20 breaking down during sniper courses, and even $4000 price tags to sell to the military, allegedly because they cannot sell at a higher price to the military than they do to the public. i would be interested to know if this is true, because if it is i can safely say i will never buy another leup again as i consider this an integrity issue. i have also heard they use 10-15yr old designs which to me means they are depending on their good name rather than investing in r&d. i wonder how long they will have a good name if these type of practices continue.....

Well I was looking to upgrade my Super Snipers and was all set on getting 2 Leupold MK4 ER/T's.
Went and compared them side by side with Nightforce. Although the glass seemed about the same (only was able to test with the indoor lights of the store)everything else on the Nightforce was head and shoulders superior to the Leupold. In fact in comparison the Leupold seemed like a cheap Chinese scope. I checked the Leupold for the infamous counterfeit markings to make sure. Yup it was a real Leupold. From the exterior my old Millett LRS-1 seemed more robust and better built (probably not the inside though since the LRS-1 has long ago taken a dump).
Needless to say, I have 1 Nightforce NXS 5.5-22X50 (for my POF-308) and 1 Nightforce NXS 5.5-22X56 (for my Rem 700 Tactical)on order from Euro Optics, who by the way are great to work with. I highly recommend them.

But I will also say, 3 scopes went down at the Bash, <span style="font-style: italic">(that I know of)</span> and two were Leupolds... enough in one case to be a safety issue on the line, the other happened at point where we salvaged the shooter's afternoon, but was clearly not capable of continuing otherwise, it stopped tracking.
Dollar for dollar, as in what you get for what you pay, NF is the best scope on the market for this type shooting.
I have the new M5 here, I am planning on looking at it shortly... I will say I am hopeful.

NightForce all the way ! I was so happy with my 5.5-22x50 I bit the bullet and put the NXS1-4 on my 3 Gun AR. BY a NF once vs 2-4 others which in the long run costs more.
I sell both to my customers (side FFL business) but the NF folks are always happy with the decision not the case iwth Leupold buyers

Well, he's never shy about saying things about IOR and the Razor HD doesn't seem to be "wildly popular" here so I guess that leaves the only other high dollar brand that seems to come up in every "WUT SCOEP SHOOD I BY GUYZ" thread.

It's not Hensoldt, S&B, or USO... and no, I saw no issue with the Vortex either. But we are seeing increased cases of problems, which I'm sure will be addressed by the fine customer service provided.

USO has been doing a really good job lately of changing things around. The last several scopes they have sent to SH have all worked properly with no issue.
During the match there was one USO issue, but it was totally operator error, that too was sorted out quickly. After the scope continued to work correctly and i saw no issue on the line with any USO being fielded.
According to John, some internal changes have been made to shore up the tracking and strength. The new illumination knob found on the PSR scope is pretty neat too, nice design.

Leupold doesn't care what we say, or see... they know they have a solid market regardless.
They are included with many package rifles thanks to name recognition, pricing and the fact they can supply not only large initial orders, but replacement orders in bulk.
Clearly if they were concerned there would be some kind of outreach either in public or private, but instead they glance past secure in the fact they will be here tomorrow. Any criticism leveled can be answered simply by saying -- so many users can't be wrong, also since they are included on systems like the Knights, it trumps anything we see or say. In fact they are part of the new Remington MSR conversion for the M24, so our observations are meaningless. Every new upgraded M24 will have a new Leupold on it. If the scope fails, no problem they have a replacement ready to go.

Frank's right of course, but I will say this I got to finger that CQBSS scope at a match here a Loopy rep brought an adorned rifle to and it looked really nice.
The rep looked a little nervous when Boltripper walked outside with it hahaha
4000$ nice though? If I hadn't won a pair of their bino's for free that I love and appreciate I'd definitely email them an extremely high rez closeup of my testicles for that kind of ass-bannana-ery.

A unit we worked with in Aug has the 1-8X w/ Locking turrets, yadda, yadda, yadda, only issue I saw, it had the Horus reticle in it, which I think is wasted on 8X, but, of the 1-8X scopes I have seen to date, it was certainly one of the better ones.
The unit has an unreasonably large budget, so it's not surprising they had them. I mean then had HK416s with multiple uppers for each guy. S&Bs on one, 1-8X on the other.

I thought I already said, Nightforce, unless you can find a deal on a more expensive used scopes, providing they are solid and not something being rejected due to a mechanical issue. But for what, $2200 with rings, the F1 is not a bad deal. I would recommend getting the Mil Dots not the MLR in the F1. At least until they release the enhanced FFP reticle for the scope.
I also like S&B 3-12X and every now and then you can find them around $2100, I had an AI marked one I bought for $1800. But sometimes timing doesn't allow the search necessary to find such deals.
Problem is most people are magnification whores which means they want more than 12X or 15X, which costs more money. They start looking at stuff like 25X then the price jumps up by at least $800 in most cases.
For this the Vortex Razor isn't bad, more to the idea of tactical because of the sensitivity of the eye box, but really it has all the necessary features. If you knew you were doing more F Class type tactical shooting, and less alternate positions I would say consider this scope because it had good features with the magnification people want. I also like the reticle in the Vortex the best of all the hold over type reticles. At the Bash Scott had the improved EBR, where they adjusted the tone of the hold over section and it looked really good. Vortex has a great reticle.
There are positive and negatives to any scope... but I try not to compromise too much on durability. Having a scope shit the bed on the first day of a competition is bad. Ask the guy who's Leupold died. He was livid and deeply upset to have spent as much money as he did just to get there. So you really want to minimize the possibility of failure. For a loaner I use my Super Sniper 10XHD, it works every time without failure. But I have also loaned out several NF that get swapped around a lot. Jacob's loans S&B. Once it's done we don't' want to chase optic issues anymore, these make sure it is not the scope.

I totally agree with you, Leupold have a loyal following. But when you ask users to make a comparison, as in this case versus NightForce, look at the reaction you get. The consumer has already pigeon-holed Leupold on the quality ladder - that's why I think they'll have a hard time trying to convince would-be NightForce customers to consider their fancy new fandango $4000 AR15 scope and have an even harder time trying to convince existing Zeiss and S&B aficionados. Especially when you consider Leupold is going to be asking $1500 more for their CQBBS than S&B is for their new equivalent offering, the 1-8 power Short-Dot. It's going to be interesting.

From trunk to bench or prone most everything will work for awhile, and some may last forever, even with something wrong with it. Why, because the shooter may not know what to look for or may always second guess their ability, ammo, or stick.
That said, once LR field shooting starts, things will change. You'll make everything,(tools an you) prove it's worth, no matter the maker, their rep., price or butter mouthing.
I would guess before I went USO only, the amount of money wasted to get there was 4X's the final price, buy once and cry once. Good glass will make a difference on target down range even on a questionable stick, because it will now be repeatable.

Nightforce. I was a Leupy guy up until a few years ago. I am now in the process of selling off the Leupy's and replacing them with the Nf's.

Just actually got back from the Leupold Factory picking up my MK4 with H58 today and got a chance finger a CQBSS, its definitely a well built scope. Nowhere will it be close to 4k price range. It will be around the 3kish range. Of course add the Horus and you're halfway there.

haha really? The reticle is just an estimation anyways. When you send a shot down range and see a puff of dirt it is just an estimate where it lands!
If you have 1/4 MOA reticle, and a Mildot reticle all it means is you are 14 clicks off per mildot.
All these experts on SnipersHide act like it some kind or rocket science. Just like the whole thread where I said mildot might not be universal because the whole universe might not use a 10 base system and got banned for it.
Because obviously I debated with one of the cool kids. Can't debate with the cool kids now!

I would not say I have superior knowledge. I do have access to the same books you do. I do not see my thinking as superior. I just see it as different. Not better, not superior, not inferior, just different.
How am I complicating the system? With Mil knobs and mildot it is 10 clicks between dots. With 1/4 MOA knobs and a mildot it is 14 clicks between dots.
How is that complicated? The way I see it you can be good with either and do not believe you have to have matching knobs with matching reticle. If you can get a good deal with "mismatch" reticle/knobs than I would do that, and I would not go out of my way to make sure it matches.
Any of either way is easy. Your spotter tells you are 1.5 mils too far right. With mil-knobs this mean you go to the left 15 clicks. With MOA this means you go to the left 21 clicks. No real thinking involved.

How am I complicating the system? With Mil knobs and mildot it is 10 clicks between dots. With 1/4 MOA knobs and a mildot it is 14 clicks between dots.
How is that complicated? The way I see it you can be good with either and do not believe you have to have matching knobs with matching reticle. If you can get a good deal with "mismatch" reticle/knobs than I would do that, and I would not go out of my way to make sure it matches.
Any of either way is easy. Your spotter tells you are 1.5 mils too far right. With mil-knobs this mean you go to the left 15 clicks. With MOA this means you go to the left 21 clicks. No real thinking involved.

haha really? The reticle is just an estimation anyways. When you send a shot down range and see a puff of dirt it is just an estimate where it lands!

All these experts on SnipersHide act like it some kind or rocket science. Just like the whole thread where I said mildot might not be universal because the whole universe might not use a 10 base system and got banned for it.

This thread has taken a turn to the surreal. I would suppose that any system would work just as well as the other as long as you practice with that system and know it like the back of your hand.
