Rifle Scopes Nikon Monarch 50mm Sunshade Question

I am looking to purchase a new or used sunshade for my Monarch 4-16x 50mm scope.
Will other brands fit on this scope or am I limited to the Nikon proprietary shade?

What is the advantage and disadvantage of a long 4" shade as verses something shorter?

The trick is getting the thread pitches to match up. Best chance of getting an answer would be to call someone who carries a large variety of scopes. The advantages of a longer sunshade is that it will help block more sun compared to a smaller one. Sometimes a long sunshade can be overkill on a short barrel rifle and it adds bulk.
