Hey there guys, first post here and really like the forums.
I'm a youngish guy who lives in the country and has family owned land to shoot on; for pest control as often as not. I've recently bought a Norinco .22LR boltaction rifle, marketed as the 'Puma Hunter' here in Australia. It is a wooden stocked .22LR calibre rifle modelled after the CZ452 of the same calibre. Many parts interchange, including magazines.
The idea of this thread is to follow the journey of my rifle as it goes from a simple open-sighted plinker to a (hopefully) accurate varmint outfit. I do not expect it to perform to the level of dedicated outfits sold by respected manufacturers but I do hope to eventually be capable of accuracy better than 1 inch at 100 meters, or sub MOA.
To start things off, I cleaned the rifle with a solvent and then patched out, followed by an oiled patch and then patched several times until all residue was gone. I then fixed a basic telescopic sight and went shooting...
The sight was a basic $7 Tasco 4x15 rimfire telescopic sight. It wasn't the most appealing or accurate piece of gear I've ever fitted to a rifle, but it did focus shots into about a palm sized group at 50 meters and wasn't too hard to fit or adjust; just a couple of screws and you're done. Not terrible.
(please tell me if you cannot see the image)
Note the two 10 round magazines, adding to the two 5 round magazines that came with the rifle. They cycle well and also fit CZ .22 rimfire rifles I have access to.
The rifle so far has approximately 200 rounds through it and has shown a preference for CCI Subsonic and Winchester Powerpoints. Remington RX Subsonic also shot well, with Winchester Subsonic and CCI Blazer shooting somewhat less well, and Remington Cyclone being worst of all.
I will update with photos and information as I get to them, hope to see you all along for the ride.
Cheers - boingk
