I was doing some reading today and came across Nosler's new 26. Has anyone shoot this new caliber? If so what do you think of the caliber? For those that have not read anything about it here is a quoit from Nosler's web page.

"The 26 Nosler® cartridge was designed to take advantage of the inherently accurate and high B.C. 6.5mm (.264) caliber bullets, and is capable of shooting the Nosler® 129 grain, AccuBond® Long Range™ bullet at a blazing 3400 fps out of the muzzle. Zeroed at 350 yards, the 26 Nosler® has a Point Blank Range of 0-415 yards. Loaded with the 129gr ABLR, the 26 Nosler® retains as much velocity at 400 yards as the 260 Remington® produces at the muzzle. The 26 Nosler® case is non-belted, thus headspaced off of the shoulder to further enhance accuracy. The “26” also utilizes a standard (30-06) length action meaning shorter bolt-throw and lighter weight than magnum length actions."

There are a few for sale on gunbroker at this time even thought no brass is available tell next month. (Remington 700 26 Nosler Trued and Blueprinted : Bolt Action Rifles at GunBroker.com)

For hunting with a stock gun and buying box ammo every now and then it would probably be pretty nice. For the avid shooter/reloader, it's probably the worst way to go. The cartridge is a barrel burner and will burn the barrel out quickly if shot often. 6.5 SAUM would be the way to go if you shoot a lot and or reload. Again, probably perfect for a hunter who shoots less than 40 rounds a year and buys his own ammo.

I'm still wondering what was wrong with the 6.5x55 for a long actioned 6.5mm round? The 26 Nosler sounds like a nail in search of a hammer, unless someone can enlighten me otherwise...

what is a barrel burning round. 2k........ He could sight it in and shoot 100 rounds a year for the next 19 plus years.

It is an awesome caliber. For a hunting application it should be phenomenal. Every one told me my 264 win mag is a barrel burner. Just over 2k in rounds through it and still producing 1/2 moa at 100.
