I’ve had a discussion with a man that was primarily chopping scar barrels. For my heavy, he was strongly recommending to cut a 1/2 thread pitch as to add more shoulder for the muzzle device to sit on, making it a more robust suppressor host.
I never proceeded in this manner, but I think about that premise a bit.
That's the other school of thought.
School 1 is to have as big of threads as possible to prevent any "belling" of the muzzle. Some will go as large as 3/4" threads to mitigate this.
School 2 is to have smaller threads to allow for a larger shoulder for threaded devices. TacOps uses 9/16" threads for this reason.
I don't think there's really a right or wrong answer, it just depends on what your objectives are and what tradeoffs you are willing to make to accomplish them.
