I always wondered why every gun in the for sale section never came with the atlas bipod or monopod pictured. I always used Harris and thought they were great, then they introduced the s series and they were even nicer. I'm just putting together a 700 5R 308 in an AICS and decided to spend the money on the Atlas bipod and monopod. They are built with serious quality and the panning is really nice. I've only been able to play with and not shoot yet, saving for the scope. Anyway, just had to post up my first impressions on the Atlas parts. I see my Barrett 98B getting a new bipod after the 700 scope. And the never ending sickness continues.

I hear you. When I got mine, opened it and saw how well built it was that took half the sting out of the $280 I spent. Then I shot with it and used it on a few hunts and all of the sticker shock was gone. Kasey, his crew, their customer service and the products they come up with are as good as they come.

The Atlas bipod is worth the coin and is leaps and bounds better than a Harris. I'm glad I made the switch.

I have tried the Atlas but never been lucky enough to own one.
On my last build I got a good deal on the GG&G and it is still much better than a Harris but not as sweet as the atlas but again at the price tag it was the right price, the atlas is still a bit high.

There is 16" steel gongs at 525, 640, 750, 925 (cut out at top left), and 945. The three switch backs straight out accross the creek there's one at 1450, 1560, 1625 and 1725 at the tree line. That last clearing is around 1 1/2 to 2 miles and out of my league. Fifteen minutes from my house and no one seems to mess with them in the last year since I built it. All the lower roads were logged then burmed up so only quads can go in there. This place resulted from when my range wouldn't let me shoot my 338LM at the range.

After reviewing this thread, I bought the Atlas Bipod v1.8 off of tactical triad. A little pricey but if you all say such glowing reviews, it is worth the extra money. I will write a review when I get home.

Para, you will not be disappointed. Like I have said a few times before, if you don't like it you can sell it here in 30 minutes or less and only lose the $5 it costs to ship it.

I have a thing for nicely machined metal. The Atlas definitely definitely satisfies that. A stamped metal bipod just leaves me feeling "eh".

Anyone care to elaborate what is so great? All I've heard on this thread is how "nicely machined" it is. I don't care about pretty. How does it help stabilize my shooting platform and help me shoot any better? My mind is open, just need it explained to me...

Shooting off the atlas is like shooting off sandbags. The harris is very rigid and tends to magnify any movement, whereas the atlas dampens them.
Granted someone with really good technique could probably shoot well with either one, I feel like shooting with the atlas is like shooting with a rifle with a brake vs without a brake. Or with an upgraded trigger vs a factor trigger.

Where does the dampening effect come from? Is it spring loaded in some way? I'll have to get behind one eventually. Unfortunately, I live in a small community where people wouldn't spend $20 for a bipod!

They just work beyond expectation. I love mine. Never going anywhere if a rifle comes or goes. Prob will end up with a couple more. Top notch.

You won't truly understand and benefit from loading a bipod until you shoot an atlas. Biggest thing for me is when I load the Altas after the shot I'm still on target. I shot a rifle with a Harris the other day and it did seem like the movements were magnified as comparede to the Atlas.

When asked what makes the Atlas so good, I explain it this way;
My Atlas whispers sweetly to me after each shot "hit" followed by "good shot sir, looking forward to the next...."

I watched the video. This is the first bipod I will have ever used except the ones on our EBR's. I guess there will never be any going back. I can't wait to finally shoot with it.

Ship, you would need a rail or if you had an AI rifle you can get a spigot mount. If you want a rail I suggest the one B&T/Accu-shot makes.

I wondered how a bipod could be worth that much. But I've seen a couple of friends and their LMT MWSses wearing an Atlas V8, and the quality of it was justification enough. I finally got around to getting mine, and shamefully, I havent had time to get out to the range yet, BUT when I went through my dry fire sequence on a couple of my rifles, I was marvelled at the range of adjustment and how much more comfortable I could get behind it, as well as how it feels when loaded and how it loads. Just, better, to me...I cannot wait to take it out shooting.

That's what is nice about AICS and the spigot mount... you only need one Atlas. It takes about 5 secs to switch between rifles.

That's why I bought the BT-10NC bipod and a Larue LT-271 mount so I can swap one really nice bipod back and forth between my SPR and the boltgun with the flip of a lever. When I ordered my chassis from McRee I also got an extra piece of rail and bolted that to the underside of the foreend so there's a bipod mounting point.

My new version 8.x attached to AI spigot weighs 15.5 oz. My AI weighs 21.75 oz.

It is not similar to shooting off an AI bipod/Parker Hale. AI deploys super fast as you know but it is floppy until loaded (and then some too.) Atlas in contrast is adjustable tension for cant from floppyish to firm, and pans for shooting movers smoothly. Atlas has 5 independent lockable leg postions through a 180 degree arc. AI/PH is in position or folded up. Atlas spigot has tension screw/knob in front to cinch down spigot to front of AI gun. Atlas whispers hits....

I have both a Harris bench rest model and an Atlas V8. I have been shooting them alternately at 600 and 800 both from the bench and prone positions to see if I was getting better results with one or the other. So far I have not been able to see any difference between the two on the targets. Has anyone done a similar comparison and if you have what were the results?

I got mine from mile high shooting last week and I am loving it. Haven't got too much range time with it yet, but what I have gotten has been great.
