If you own a NX8 are you happy with it? Would you buy it again for the same money? And yes I have read all the post on the nightforce poor customer service. I own a ATACR and I love it. Informal poll do you love your NX8?

You know you can actually setup a poll when you create a thread.
I had an NX8 2.5-20 and was hoping it would have been better than it was so I sold it. I would try a 4-32 as I’ve heard they don’t suffer nearly as much with the finicky nature of the 2.5-20, but the 4-32 doesn’t check as many boxes for me yet so I haven’t pulled the trigger.

I have a 4-32. It's a love/ regret depending on the application.

On my hunting rig/ varmint rigs , NX8 takes the cake. Looking for a few more to add to them.

On my nrl22 rig, I didn't like it, parralax was super tight for those distances, needing to be adjusted every 10 yards out to 200 it seemed like. The razor gen ii was better IMO.

Only used it for a few local matches for prs, and I again would rather shoot a gen ii razor or better yet a 16x atacr for the same price.

I’m torn. I’ve got an ATACR 4-16x42 on a hunting rifle and a NX8 2.5-20 on another hunting rifle. I love the idea of the NX8, but I’m kinda meh with the execution. I’d give the NX8 another chance and buy another, but if I found a deal on another ATACR 4-16x42 for the same money I’d jump on it without thinking.

I have the 5-25 ATACR, been switching it back and forth from my match rifle to my hunting rifle. Pain in the ass and I want to cut weight on my hunting rig. I have been ready to pull the trigger on the NX8 4-32, then I read 7 pages of Idaho Spud bad luck. Just want to know the odds, if that is 1 out of a 1000 or 1 out of 3, from owners with actual field use not key board commandos. Is the zero stop the same on the NX8 and the ATACR? What is the down side for a NX8 4-32 on a long range hunting rifle?

I prefer March for comp but hunting I think it is good value - I don't love the reticle it just feels a bit busy, but I have recommended to several people for a scope in that price range.

The one thing I can say about nightforce is there reliability is basically un matched, before I went nightforce I jumped head first into vortex, and I sent every damn piece of my vortex glass in for repair at some point or another, so I sold out of all of them and I have several nightforce scopes from SHV to NXS to ATACR scopes but have never tried the NX8... Yet.. but they have been absolutely awesome from the low end to the high end, my most recent being the Milxt 7x35 which is absolutely incredible. I do have a couple Steiner scopes which I really like but not anything like my nightforces, I would recommend them to anybody!!

I've got the 4-32 and love it on my LR hunting rifle. Also have a 16x ATACR on another hunting rifle and like it as well. I would buy either again for sure.

For context I have a Gen II razor, DMR2, SWFA fixed 10, NX8 4-32 MIL-XT and an ATACR in 7-35 MIL XT and hunt/ have hunted with all. Plains Varmint/mountain/ western style. I'll break them down between the NX8 and ATACR since that's what you've asked.
- Zero stop is same as ATACR for as far as I can remember
- NX8 turrets aren't necessarily "mushy" but they are definitely not as positive as the ATACR or even the Gen II razor IMO. I wouldnt "count clicks" on it, but then again, only super cool guys do that.
- Brightness at dusk/dawn isn't as good (obviously) but its not bad.
- I forgot what they call it in Scopes but in telescopes and camera lenses its called "field curvature" where the outside edge of the FOV is blurry compared to the center. The NX8 has that, again, not too bad for LR hunting, but annoying.
- NX8 has smaller footprint and is lighter than Atacr. Another benefit of the weight reduction I didn't think of until it was on a hunting rifle was the balance. My hunting rifles tend to be ass heavy anyway, cutting weight down helped balance it. Besides that, the smaller footprint helps when in brush.
- 4-32 reticle is pretty thin at 8-10X when looking at a densely brushed background. Not a concern for LR, but if your like me and walk around with it on 8x and happen jump game at 100-200 it may be a minus.

On a LR hunting rifle, where weight is a concern and you'll be shooting in normal shooting times, I think you'll be perfectly happy.
If weight is no concern, I'd look at other options in the same price range. The weight and footprint is what makes the NX8 so great IMO.

As far as the odds, I'd like to know too, I may be the 998/1000 or the 2/3, but I've crawled through mud and dirt to antelope and slid down snow covered hills when I ate shit, hasn't let me down yet this season. Zero stop, elevation tracks, and Magnification all functions as designed. That being said, the Atacr does all of them better.

I have the nx8 4-32 tremor 3 on a long range rifle. I love it, but im going to sell it to upgrade to the atacr. I looked through a 7-35x in a recent class I took

I was a long-time NF fanboy and still own quite a few. I have become quite the Vortex GII Razor fan instead but I have two of the NX8 4-32 FFP scopes. They are a large improvement over the NXS and I like them better than my ATAC-R as well but I just cannot be in love with them. Glass quality is not an issue for me and eye box is fine but I really appreciated the solid clicks, accurate adjustment and marked (accurately) parallax of the Razor GII. My all time favorite reticle was, sadly, the now discontinued 1-C MRAD.

I bought a 4-32 (Mil-C) 6 months ago and have put 400 rounds through it from 100-800yds. My only nitpick is the parallax. For the $ spent (just under 2k iirc), I am very pleased with the value for what I am using it for.

Because the 42 is more compact and the 50 is larger and has the bigger turrets. The point of the 4-16 is to be "compact". Just my opinion.

I also had both the 4-16x42 ATACR and 2.5-20 NX8. I still have the nx8. It seems like the better crossover hunting scope for me.

I also looking between the nx8 2.5-20 and the atacr 4-16. Why is it every time the 4-16 is mentioned it’s always the 42 objective and not the 50 objective? Weight? Something else?

I MUCH prefer the locking turret of the 42 than the massive non locking turret of the 50. The 42 draws plenty of light, and I don’t see the need for unnecessary weight and size. Seems most agree.

I have found it very finicky. I need to adjust it quite a bit more often than what I am used to with my other scopes
Please define it better for me. Target is out of focus, narrow focus window or actual parallax, the reticle is moving when you move your eye? (the apparent movement of objects within the field of view in relation to the reticle.)

I've got buddies who love their NX8 1-8s and find no benefit over the 1-8 ATACR. So yes, I think several of my buddies would also purchase another Nx8. For me personally, after running a Razor 1-6, the ATACR (to me) feels right up my alley with the eyebox. All training dependent and I"m sure folks who have an NX8 1-8 can be and I'm sure are just as fast. I felt the ATACR to be very nice and forgiving. I also enjoy the reticle on it as well.
