Deputy Ian Deutch
Husband, Father of 1 daughter and two step sons.
Staff Sgt. in the Nevada Army National Gaurd 1/221st Armored Cavalry
Returned back to work as a Deputy Sheriff at the Nye County Sheriffs Office in Pahrump, Nv. after a 1 year tour in Afghanistan. He didn't get a scratch on him.

He had responded to a call of a domestic, a shooting took place. Deputy Deutch was shot 3 times by the male suspect using an SKS rifle. He was flown to UMC's trauma unit where he died while doctors were working on him.

Not only was Ian a father, husband, soldier, and police officer he was an inspiration to me while I attended the NCSO police academy. He gave me advice, direction, and pushed me when I felt I couldn't go anymore. I have not worked there for the last 2 years, but I still kept in touch with him through facebook, and friends. RIP brother, you will be missed.

Re: Officer Down

the bad guy was killed by his partner. not bad shooting if it was pistol v sks......dont know the details........
I dont think I could engage a guy if he had a rifle and I had a pistol. I guess I would duck till he reloaded then try for an aimed shot. Nevada State Bank has set up an account in his name.

Re: Officer Down

Sorry to hear it. The Italians have a saying that translates roughly to 'the crab grass never dies'. It means that the young and the brave are taken from this world too early. My condolences to the family he left behind.

There was a similar incident in Grand Rapids, Michigan, a few years ago: also a domestic call. The responding officer was shot from inside the building as he approached. He had no chance to protect himself. The local enforcement community has since organized several events to help support his wife and children. Hopefully your community will do the same.
