It's taken a while to decide what I want to build but I've finally decided on 4 suppressors to build
I've been a machinist for 24 years and have access to a full CNC machine shop with some know how with Gibbs cam.

This is my list
1. One Idea I got from looking at the aac-m4 2000 for my AR
2. two versions of something that looks like the sparrow with improvements,
one for my sig 22 and the 2nd for a custom build on my m&p15-22
3. A integral suppressor for my ruger 10/22

I have the plans and programs ready and as soon as the form 1s come back on my trust I can build
Each one will take me about a day so it should be pretty quick
Photos to come

Re: Ohh crap I've done it now... 5 form 1s paid

If I'm not mistaken..... and you are not a licensed SOT holder, I thought you could only make one suppressor a year? I may be wrong, but thats what I thought I had read in the ATF/NFA ruling.

Re: Ohh crap I've done it now... 5 form 1s paid

It's what I read at some point. Wasn't sure. thats why I asked.... you don't have to be objective with everything you know

Re: Ohh crap I've done it now... 5 form 1s paid

Yes I know they dont pay a tax stamp, they still register it.
Just wasnt sure about an individual and how many they were allowed to make. See, you learn something new everyday. Maybe I'll make my own now!

If the individual makes them, you cant sell them for profit, right? That would require the SOT license and FFL.

Re: Ohh crap I've done it now... 5 form 1s paid

Ummm... Actually, with respect to selling them you are getting into a whole different can of worms. If you manufacture and sell items for a profit you are now "in the business" and you need a FFL. This is the same situation as a guy who buys a gun, doesn't like it and sells it so he can buy another. Much like everyone in the "for sale" section is doing. That is legal. But if you buy a gun (or build a suppressor) with the sole intent of selling it for a profit you are now "in the business of" and you need to be licensed. Doing this will most definitely get you some unwanted government attention. And if you don't think transferring an item that you recently built on a Form 1 isn't going to be noticed I would say you are wrong.

All 5 are going to be with me for many many years so if I sell one next year I'm sure that won't be intent to

Re: Ohh crap I've done it now... 5 form 1s paid

Correct. Just saw the "can sell it for whatever" comment and didn't want you to end up in the pokey. People mess that one up all the time and a certain federal agency has a complete lack of humor regarding the distinction between "collecting/upgrading a collection" and "in the business of". It's actually one statute that everyone should read and make an attempt to understand.

Re: Ohh crap I've done it now... 5 form 1s paid

FFL/SOT aside, can you sell a copy of someone elses can design?

i would think some sort of patent infringement would be possible. i mean, unlikely by selling 1 can but still. i think copying is ok as long as its personal use.

but i dunno

Re: Ohh crap I've done it now... 5 form 1s paid

I'd check out the silencer smithing section of the silencertalk.com site for more info on building form 1 cans if you haven't already. There is a wealth of info on baffle designs and how/why they work. That aside, I don't believe there is a distinction between "personal use" and "manufacturing for distribution" when it comes to patent infringement. The chances of getting caught are low, but would be elevated significantly when the entire build process is going to be photographically documented and posted online for the world to see.

35 U.S.C. 271. Infringement of patent
(a) Except as otherwise provided in this title, whoever without authority makes, uses, offers to sell, or sells any patented invention, within the United States or imports into the United States any patented invention during the term of the patent therefor, infringes the patent.
(b) Whoever actively induces infringement of a patent shall be liable as an infringer.

I, too, wouldn't suggest trying to clone other folks intellectual property and then posting about it in well-read forums like this one. I'm sure AAC vigorously defends it's intellectual property rights.

Hear is my m&p 15-22 suppressor

And this is the core.. I have a sparrow but I dident want 16 inches of barrel plus 6 inches of suppressor plus I plan on useing hyper volicity ammo
I needed stainless and at the time sparrow dident come in stainless .... I also wanted a larger blast chamber
The center of the baffles have a larger devide wich I think helps out with the high volicity ammo

And with out the suppressor I cut the barrel down to 16 and1/4 and made a titainum end concentric to the bore within .0005
The suppressor slides on the barrel with .0005 slip so even if it comes lose half way it will never give a baffle strike

When I was out testing my new suppressor I met a guy with a lightning link and he was very kind to let me test it with my new build

Re: Ohh crap I've done it now... 5 form 1s paid

This is the baffles I went with they are heat treated 17-4 stainless
They are ground on the O.D to a .001 slip fit and just slide in a 316 stainless tube then both ends are welded
The bore on the
is .250 leaving .014 preside
For the .223 bullet

Maybe you should apply to make suppressors for profit.
These things are NICE

great work !!!!!!!!! </div></div>

Thanks a lot I am talking to some people about doing something on the small side but if Utah's sb11 is found to be constitutional I'm going to start a small shop.... (sb11is the Utah passed bill that says any firearm made and keeped in Utah is exempt from federal laws )

Re: Ohh crap I've done it now... 5 form 1s paid

maybe this is misinterpreted by me but..

If I for example fill out a Form1 to make a suppressor does it HAVE to be made by ME. Or can I have a machinist make it for me ??

And the machinist does not do it for profit but instead a gift for his services ?

But if that Utah law is how you say it is... Thats awesome. Eliminates alot of the BS

Re: Ohh crap I've done it now... 5 form 1s paid

so if I read it correctly you don't even have to apply for the Form 1 as long as it stays in Utah and labeled as such.

wife, kids, pack it up we are moving to UTAH. HOORAY!!!

No one but the Feds can arrest you for a unrejesterd suppressor  just like that f..ked up state of California pot bill where pot is legal

Re: Ohh crap I've done it now... 5 form 1s paid

well after I read your bill I started to look at my state and low and behold we are trying to get it passed also.

I have never voted but I think this might be my first time.

Basically worded the same as the rest, their is also a house bill to allow water carry as an extention of your home. And campus carry with a CHL

sorry for the hijack!!

I have looked over all your suppressors like 20 times each, can't wait for the others

Re: Ohh crap I've done it now... 5 form 1s paid

Im curious as to the reason for the halved tube that goes outside the baffles?

Does that somehow make it more effective than just having the outside tube slip closely over the baffles?

Re: Ohh crap I've done it now... 5 form 1s paid

its to allow a easier way of cleaning out the baffle stack.

when they are halved it justs opens up, lead fouling won't make it almost impossible to push out.

I think..

The split tubes just help to slide the core out of the main tube for cleaning
If you look at the build up on the tubes you can see lead build up that would seal you can up
They are different than the patent pending silencer tubes because they don't seal together

Re: Ohh crap I've done it now... 5 form 1s paid

Is there a big difference in the extra baffle you have on the rifle opposed to the 8 on the pistol ? sound wise

Can the rifle suppressor be used on another host or is it made just for that one ?

Re: Ohh crap I've done it now... 5 form 1s paid

The rifle suppressor is extra heavy duty since I like to use hyper velocity ammo when I'm after bunnies
The pistol is for light weight and I think is quiter than my sparrow... I can make the can just for a certain type of firearm and still cycle wheare as others types must be made to work on all firearms

Sound wise their the same to my ear but look at the blast left over in the half tubes and you can see what I mean

Re: Ohh crap I've done it now... 5 form 1s paid

Rugger 10/22

Just finished my intregal rugger 10/22, the hard part for me was cutting the wood stock out to fit the barrel

f74b5853.jpg

86a837c0.jpg

The barrel has been cut down to 8 inches and I have used a wire EDM to cut 60 degree slots into the barrel as a gas relief on the full leanth of the barrel to keep bullets subsonic
Then I've threaded the end for this type of suppressor to go on the barrel

8753bf06.jpg

Then to make it as quite as possible I made a 2 inch tube at the end of the suppressor( but inside the large tube)
rolled up steal wool around a 1/4 bar .... Just to give a center for the bullet to pass
And that is at the end of the tube past the suppressor and sealed in side by a threaded end cap , it's like a steel wool  bullet wipe
I Plan on this one as a muskrat killer
