SO give me your thoughts...between these weapons....

SIG P220

HK45

or a 1911 w/rails (I love the Night Hawk enforcer and the volkmann customs are very nice too)

I am no longer a police officer and now in the military so this would be a carry and range gun.....

Re: OK guys tell me what you think????

That has always been my thoughts too on the HK.. I have bigger hands not huge but HK always seemed too big.. but was in the shop today and he showed me the new (about a year or so old, iraq will do that to you, things a year or so old seem very new to you LOL) HK45 it has been reworked alot compared to the HK USP or the MK23....

Re: OK guys tell me what you think????

I've always liked the HKs, my hands arent that big. the 1911 on the other hand is a little thin for me (though I have one, I'm just much more proficient with my double stacks)

Re: OK guys tell me what you think????

I have and love my p220, but a Volkmann is in a league of its own. The are complete custom pistols of the highest quality. The Wilson and nighthawks are semi-custom (still awesome pistols). I vote Volkmann....

Re: OK guys tell me what you think????

I don't understand the question.

You are gonna buy a gun on a recommendation of what would work best for me? Cuz I can't possibly recommend what would work best for you.

Shoot 'em all (if you can) buy whatever fits your budget / fits your hand / you like the looks of / your CO will allow you to carry / you shoot accurately / are already proficient with from your LEO days, , etc.

They are all fine guns, but a internet popularity contest shouldn't be the determining factor of what you buy.

Custom guns are like supermodels....fun to date, but I wouldn't trust my life to 'em.

(The OP will be using this as a carry gun)

Re: OK guys tell me what you think????

i go with the sig, easy to carry; the hk its harder to carry(its a bit bigger) now if you ever want to add a suppressor to it. the hk will be better. you save yourself some money since the hk comes with treaded barrel.

NO not asking for a popularity contest... want to know if you or anyone has experience with any of these weapons.. Local gun ranges dont have these to rent to shoot.I have an older sig P229 great weapon, but never fired a P220. Have shot the HK USP45 compact but never a full size, and not this new HK45... only 1911's i have shot are all base models nothing to write home about... Thanks again for all the comments keeping them coming if you have experience with these weapons

OK, then, I'll answer like a CCW instructor (which I am

My advice to people as to "which gun" all hinges on what feels good in your hand, and meets the natural point of aim (NPoA) rule. Grip the gun. Close your eyes. Point the gun (safely) down range, letting your skeleton dictate the exact point of the gun. Open your eyes. If the sights are pretty closely alinged, the gun aims naturally for you. If you have to use your muscles to override the NPoA, recoil will fatigue you and accuracy will suffer. ESPECIALLY true for a carry gun, where FAR more is instinctive than anything else.

Once you find the gun that points naturally for you, there is no substitue for actually shooting it. I've bought guns and sold them after shooting 40 rounds cuz there was no gun avaialble to shoot before buying. (That gun NPoA'd perfectly, but shot horribly to me - worst gun ever, for me. It was the USPC40, referenced below) If the gun meets the NPoA rule, the skeleton, and not the muscles will dictate the position the gun returns to rest after recoil, and your follow up shots will be more accurate, and cause less fatigue.

______________

What follows is my opinion, and personal experience with said guns. Please forgive any excessive bias.

HK45 full size would be big for me to carry (I'm 6'4" and 255) But I'm a carry weight wuss - my carry gun is a Kahr CW45. I shot a HK USPC40, and hated it. I've shot a full size 45 and wasn't really impressed good or bad. It went bang.

The 1911 single stack would be about as heavy (thinner but steel) but the thinner profile would carry better. The argument is ongoing about mag capacity and caliber. I've got nothing illuminating to say about that. The 1911 will have more holsters / carry options that either gun, cuz alot of people carry them. "If people buy it, they will build it." I've shot a number of 1911's. They don't fit my hand particularly well, but are decent from a NPoA perspective.

I am a big fan of Sig. They fit my hand perfect. NPoA is perfect. That said, I sold all of them, cuz the slide height is so far above the wrist axis, cuzing greater muzzle flip. I wnet with Springfield XD cuz it fits my hand like a Sig, but also has a slide height closer to the Glock. (GO to an IDPA match. YOu won't see hardly ANY Sigs in the competition.) I hate Glocks. Feel awful in the hand, don't NPoA, do have the best slide height.

Hope this is in some way helpful. You prolly already knew most of it.
