    Is it "Reticle" or "Reticule".

I've been searching for the last two weeks and I keep seeing over and over people on the hide and other places use the term "reticule", I've heard it spoken in conversation and worst of all I see it on Scope dealers websites. The primary definition for "Reticule" is a woman's small handbag. While it IS a variant of reticle, I think "reticule" is the incorrect usage in the US and sounds kinda ghey in a British "po-tahhh-toe" kinda way.

    From the dictionary:
    <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body"><span style="font-weight: bold">reticule</span>
    n
    1. (Clothing & Fashion) (in the 18th and 19th centuries) a woman's small bag or purse, usually in the form of a pouch with a drawstring and made of net, beading, brocade, etc.
    2. (Physics / General Physics) a variant of reticle

    <span style="font-weight: bold">reticle</span> less commonly, reticule
    n
(Engineering / General Engineering) a network of fine lines, wires, etc., placed in the focal plane of an optical instrument to assist measurement of the size or position of objects under observation Also called graticule</div></div>

Seems like "reticul" is the romanian term, so this is a case of "romanglish".

I think it has something to do with people using spell check or if you use firefox it also will tell you reticle is not spelled correctly and it wants you to replace it with reticule, along with what Scott and David stated.
    Reticle is correct.

I was under the impression is was a Euro influenced spelling for reticule.
Seems like I see reticle in USA marketed material.

lol hahaha, man i had some guy calling it a rectal the other day, talk about awkward, i kept trying to correct him by saying "RETICLE" but he never caught on. i would hate to see a rectal in a scope

Theatre and Theater have nothing to do with American and English spelling. One is the class or study of and the other is the actual building where theatrical plays occur.

Not to mention that theatre and theater are pronounced the exact same, while reticle and reticule are not.
