My son want's to fabricate/make a shroud for his air rifle and I wonder does this fall under a suppressor ??? I know it is a gray area, I know if you reduce the sound of a fire arm by 1 decibel it is considered a suppressor but this is a shroud to change the path of the air exiting the air rifle. Thank you for your time and info

Usually, a firearm is defined around the use of expanding gases as a result of combustion, as such, an air rifle does not normally fall under the same restrictions.
Check your state penal code definition of a firearm.
SOME states further restrict the use of moderators on air rifles.

When my son was into airsoft, he purchased a "sniper rifle" with a removable suppressor. It was nothing more than a tube with a hole in the end and acted as an expansion chamber. The damn thing worked though.
