This is true. I used to be into salt water aquariums back in the 90's. You had to be careful that you didn't accidentally introduce a mantis shrimp via coral or rock where they often hide. I remember reading about cases where the little bastards actually cracked glass tanks.

No the pistol shrimp is a different animal than the mantis shrimp entirely. Pistol shrimp have a claw that snaps shut. Mantis shrimp smash with their arms
