So I have a 74 vintage 700VS .222 with an atrocious trigger. I tried adjusting it like I have done to several others and no joy...still sucks. I determined part of the issue was years of gunk built up in the trigger itself. SO, I took the trigger out of the action, removed the adjusting screws and put the rest in a solvent soak. I went to put it back together last night and guess what...it wont cock!!! I checked the position of the screws and they were all suitable for initial adjustment...so not the issue. I got to looking and the window in the side of the housing where you can check the sear engagement you cant see the top of the trigger, just the sear. Now I did not take the housing apart or remove the safety/bolt release. I pulled the trigger back out and test it manually and can not get ANY sear engagement at all.

Did I lose something???

I think I just figured it out. I lost the trigger connector. Actually I didn't lose it, just didn't know what it was when I found it on the floor....damn I shoulda posted this on the dumbass board---geez I feel stupid

ok that would make sense . I was referring to the sear spring spring not a screw. I had a 722 rem in 222 come into the shop last week missing the sear spring . it would not cock so 2.95 worth of spring later and she has a very happy owner .

Quick Question on this gun since it was brought up. On a Rem722 in a .222, would a Rem700 trigger work on this rifle; like a Timney 510 or one of the other comparable triggers? Thank you!
