with a 16'' 308 any muzzle device help stabilize the bullet by braking up the gas plume when it leaves the barrel etc ...

Re: ? on muzzle brake or flash hider

Everything I've learned on brakes is that there isn't any affect on bullet accuracy, other then the reduction of recoil. The inside diameter of the brake is oversized in comparison to the bullet diameter. On my 6.8 AR, I was told to simply use a .308 and that the oversize diameter wouldn't have positive or negative affect on the flight of the bullet. While I did drill and then ream a .223 brake to a closer fit.

My current build a 6.5 Creedmoor R700 the Bastard brake is in .308. In questioning about id, I was told almost the same exact info. I hope all is correct because the Bastard brake needs to be index which is being done presently.

Any decent brake should promote accuracy rather than the opposite.

For a moment in time the bullet is traveling subsonic relative to gases around it, and muzzle brakes will make that distance much shorter.

The important factor is a ID bore that is concentric to the barrel bore. If it is not, loss of accuracy will occur.
