Have a freind that wants an 8-32. He can't "afford" a Nightforce. Any other suggestions? Looking at SightronS3., for $ 839. Any others?

Sightron is probably his best bet in that price range. At least It can be used on 32x, alot of folks buy 100 dollar 32x scopes only to find out their 32x scope has 15x of zoom. I think you will be GTG with the S3
I agree, Sightron SIII is the only high magnification zoom scope I would bother with below $1500 or so. I have the 6-24x50 SIII and the glass is excellent all the way, though the 2.1mm exit pupil at 24x means you can only use it under near ideal conditions (this would be true of any 50mm objective scope at 24x).
High magnification and low price are not compatible. FWIW I once owned a Weaver Super Slam Euro (their highest end model) 4-20x50mm, and it was not really useful at 20x. Not terrible, but definitely going soft and producing little to no benefit vs. using it at 15-16x. And that's a scope that goes for somewhere around $600-700.

Mabye his friend is a BR shooter. There are uses out there that benifit from zoom that high. Alot of folks think long range shooting requires 32x and we all know that is BS, but there are uses out there for the product.
We're "getting old", and we shoot from a bench, most of the time. Then move to prone. Getting up, from prone, takes a minute. The 32"s allow us to Shoot fly's, at 100, and go to 1K, and still see the target. Gettin old;'s a bitch. Wait and see! A Night Force to 20, is "costly". A 15, is costly. I've got a Night Force, to 42, and it's sweet. My GAP has a 20. Those targets look small, at 1K. Look, I'm at the "end" of my shooting career. I'll state it now. I'm old and jittery. I like the magnification. Not what the "young guys shoot", but that's OK. Any thing you hear from me should be under this "parameter".Josh= OLD GUY. Shooting, for a Hobby.. I've found that cheaper, high power scopes usually suck and I can see no more with one on 32x than I could a better scope at lower power. Have you considered looking at the Zeiss Conquest line? They have 20x and 25x options in that price range that would probably have enough resolution to help you out.
I can't stress enough that Sightron SIII is his best option. I have had all sorts of sub 1000 scopes and the Sightrons are among the few that have genuinely good glass quality and tracking while sitll being less than a grand.
I will again put my vote with Sightron. The 8-32x can be had at a great deal and is absolutely useful throughout its mag range. It does drop in brightness from 24-32 but not to the point where the extra magnification is losing detail. Your choice of reticle and turrets as well as side parallax adjustment. I'm not aware of any real competition for high magnification and variable around $800.
Sightron CS is very nice to deal with as well. I haven't had any issues but they are plenty eager to speak with customers, answer questions and offer help. You won't feel as if its a bother.

I recently tried utg 8-32 beside my nf set on 32 .yes nf was better but not that much . I first tried utg " swat " on crossbow 2 years ago it held up fine still tracks perfectly.lifetime warranty and comes with great rings. it looks like a nf clone . buy at amazon . com

The sightron SIII's are excellent, I've owned three 8-32x56's, glass was very nice throughout the entire range and I loved the turret feel.
I think you and your friends will be very pleased. Which models and reticles did you get?
One thing to be prepared for... The parallax adjustment is going to be incredibly stiff. Theyre meant to be. It can be quite a surprise if your not expecting it. It will Never move accidently and you wont have any issues with lash, although it will free up a little with use. I've grown used to it but they will change it if its too much.

I ordered the LRMOA2 reticle on 2- 8-32 Scopes. Thanks for the "heads up", on the parallax knob.These guys don't "usually shoot", past 300, but we're all getting old. It's nice to have the over power scopes. I know that most young guys can use the 15's, or 20's. We are the old guard, playing with loads, and guns. Maybe we can "advise" the younger crowd, with some of our "research". I joined a range, that has a 600yd. , and they just finished their Thousand yd. range. Ya-Hoo. Now we're gonna play! I've got a whole bunch of "load work" to do with the 300 Win Mag, and we'll see what the GAP 308 can do. I put a NF 12-42, on one of my Remmy 700-308's, and I've got a NF 8-32, on the Sako TRG 300 win. Maybe I'll switch them. Any way, I've got the loads, to work out. Plenty to do. I've been limited to 100, with the occasional 300 shooting, when I can get there. I'll work with the Sightrons, and see. My "Buds" are still working, and leave the prep work, to me, with loads, and set-up.
SIII is the best for what you want. But another option is some of the older Burris scopes. The Signature and Signature select have pretty good glass and will be much cheaper than a much newer SIII. The downside will be limited travel and exit pupil. Good luck.
SIII all the way for low price scope, very good glass and tracks perfectly, I have one of those on my F TR rig and it is working as it should,
I picked up a Cabelas 8-32 a couple of years ago (30mm 'Euro' model I believe) that doesn't suck. Better than Barska, not as good as Sightron. Best advice? Save your pennies.
