ho, tx
I have been looking for a scope for my Howa with a 20" heavy barrel in .308, for some time. As much as i would like a NF or something similar I just cant spend that kind of money. I almost ordered the 3x9 super sniper this morning, but i thought i would ask for opinions before i do. The gun is going to be used as a deer/pig stand gun. But i also like to shoot at the range often. So it will be a target gun most of time.

Will i be happy with the ss, using it for the mentioned pusposes? Am i expecting too much from one scope wanting to hunt and to also have a good target gun? If so i would make the Howa a target gun and use one of my other guns for pigs/deer?

Thanks for the help!

Re: opinions on a scope

when you see 3x9.....immediately think hunting glass.

target scopes most preferably will have much higher magnification....because them targets are out there ....and you need to be able to see them.

also....there is not one perfect scope out there, ......just go get the most expensive glass you can afford and go drive the stick and shoot

Re: opinions on a scope

I have just recieved my 4.5-14 Sightron SII Big sky Side focus with mildot reticle, Has loads of elevation very clear glass, resettable turrets with good details, not as falsh as NF dials but practable, this is a compact scope with longe range capabilities, Went on my light weight Custom shop model seven that has been rebarreled with a 24" tube in 7mmSAUM. Only 15.9 ounces as not much bigger than my 3-10 weaver Grand Slam that it replaced it the sightron has way better glass;)

I also have a SIII 8-31 and found that glass to be awesome as well but is a big scope but has dialed perectly for those longer shots:)
