I just bought a Savage 10 fp and i am looking for an optic. Whats everyone opinion on mounting an acog tothis gun? i have a 308 with a nikon 4.5-14x40mm and an ar with an eotech and aimpoint 3x tube. my intentions are for a rifle i can use to engage targets between 50-300 meters. has anyone had this setup? also the 10fp is a .223

Re: Opinions on acog on a bolt gun?

Welcome to the Hide.

ACOG is a great piece of optic for rapid target acquisition. I have ACOG TA01NSN model on my AR15 and it is right on with standard military surplus. The BDC is good for exact distances such as 100, 200, 300, and upward to 600 yards. As you go further out, the hold over for the BDC drop is a bit difficult. Also, it is more difficult to "dial in" a target say at 275 yards. I would take a regular scope for a bolt gun over the ACOG because of that. JMO

Re: Opinions on acog on a bolt gun?

thanks finally got around to registering. well i want something say like a "brush gun". i have long range stuff but i am getting kinda bored with them. i have a remington 700 sps varmiter with a warne 20 moa 1 piece pic rai and a nikon 4.5-14x40mm scope. i have an ar with an eotech 511, aimpoint 3x tube, voltor rail system. savage 300 win mag that i am setting up. just looking to do something different, and i like the acog. i just got out of service and used them on my m16, and just like them, and figured they would be good on a bolt gun.

Re: Opinions on acog on a bolt gun?

IMHO:

- Nightforce 2.5-10x24 or 2.5-10x32
- Leupold MRT 1.5-4x24
- Leupold LRT 2.5-8x36
- Super Sniper 3-9x42
- Burris XTR-14 1-4x24mm

* Dont know know the current setup/barrel length, but could also chop the tube to 17-18". Maybe even get it punched to .223AI.

* MCREE Precision makes a folder for Savage Rifle line as well.

Not true.

Re: Opinions on acog on a bolt gun?

whats the eye relief? according to trijicons website it is about 3.5in and from the ones i have used it was about the same as my usual hunting scopes.

should have been more specific. the one i am looking at has a er of 3.5. i see others have shorter. we are both correct.

As long as you know the difference. The 3.5x has one of the longest eye reliefs, but it is only 2.4"!

I made the mistake of buying the TA01 and suffered through the 1.5" of relief on my AR-15.

Re: Opinions on acog on a bolt gun?

i am looking for something low mag that i can get on target quick, i am pretty good with a bolt gun. i have heard of people putting on aimpoints and 3x tubes also, but again that is mostly a setup for ar's. my last qualification i shot expert, 300 meters open sighs with an old beat up m16. so magnification isn't a concern.

haven't made it to butner, my neighbor has a 200 meter range behind his house so i spend a lot of time over there.

Re: Opinions on acog on a bolt gun?

You need to go with one with decent eye relief. TA11 easily wins over the TA31 series.

And you need the RCO Larue mount.

It can be done. I'd honestly go with something else. That money can get you a lot more if spent elsewhere. Now if you have it all already...
