Hello,
New to snipers hide, but you guys seem to know your stuff so I have a few questions.
I am interested in getting an IOR 9-36 for my 6.5x47 lapua that is being built. I was told by a few people that this is too big of a scope for the gun and was suggested the 6x24.
My question is this what would be the advantage of going with the 6x24? Also what is everyone's feelings on IOR. Are they comparable to nightforce and leopold as far as quality?

Thanks

Re: Opinions on IOR

9-36 seems fine to me. I like the second focal plane scopes better. I have a 3-18x scope that's SFP with the original knobs. I really like it. clearest glass I've ever used aside from zeiss or schmidt and bender.

justmatt,

Welcome to the Hide. I see you have a few questions, well we here on the Hide usually have a few answers. But first:

What are you going to use the scope for? For i.e. hunting, or tactical use, target use only et al. All of them, none of them? At what ranges are you planning to shoot?

So before anyone can answer your post intelligently, we will need to know how you intend to use it.

Bob

Re: Opinions on IOR

Sir,
Thanks for your help. Mostly punching paper. I would like to be able to compete in some tactical matches once I get everything up and running.
I own a IOR fixed 10 on my M1A and love the glass. I bought off of gunbroker for $300 and the guy thought he was getting one over on me because the knobs had come loose in the scope body. I contacted IOR and they fixed everything and upgraded somethings for me free of charge. So I am happy with the company.
As far as distance, right now I live close to Baltimore, MD were we are like sardines. I belong to a hunting club with a 300 yard range which is nice but I am looking for more.
I notice on larger scopes like the one mentioned and like the 12-42 NF one don't have as much elevation as you do on smaller scope such as NF 3.5-15. Why is this and is this going to be a problem?

Thanks again for you help.
Matt

Re: Opinions on IOR

Matt,

There is Bridgeville Rifle and Pistol Club in Bridgeville Delaware 1.5 hours east of Baltimore. There is Quantico Marine Corp range 1.5 hours south in VA. Bridgeville is out to 600, Quantico goes to 1000.

Good luck

Jerry

Re: Opinions on IOR

Jerry,
I am guessing you are a member and i saw you live in Annapolis. Would you be willing to help me out. I have been in to precision shooting for about 3 years now and have more question than when I started. I belong to Stoney Creek Fishing and Hunting Club, which has a 300 yd range in Pasadena, MD. And if you aren't a member there it might be to your interest.
Thanks either way,
Matt

Re: Opinions on IOR

Would be happy to hep you out. Can you make it it Bridgeville on October 4? Plan on shooting. If you have a zero on your rifle for either 100 or 300 yards we can get you on paper at 600. I'll also introduce you to any board members that are there. In case you want to join.

Re: Opinions on IOR

Jerry,
Yeah, I'm in! Well, I have to check with wife, but 99% sure. This will be the 1st shoot I have been to, so if you could give me some pointers. I have a 700 .308, but it has a can on it. Is taking that from MD to DE going to be an issue? Is there a type of gun that I should or shouldn't bring? Is it possible to follow you up?
Thanks again,
Matt
