Suppressors Opinions on Sig 220 Dark Elite (pics NEW)

Re: Opinions on Sig 220 Dark Elite

I've got 3 older Sigs & love them all. I think the new elites look real nice, although sadly, I have no personal experience with them.

I'm a Sig fan-boy, so take what I say with a grain of salt. They are consistently the most accurate production pistols that I've used & I've had no reliability issues.

there's only one way to get it out of your brain. You know what it is

Re: Opinions on Sig 220 Dark Elite

I love my elite dark. I bought it because it was the only factory model that had a threaded barrel, and wasnt that super hooah "desert tan" color.

It runs like a swiss watch,.... click, bang. The ergo's are wonderful, and the extended beavertail on the rear of the frame is nice. (slide bite sucks)

Anyway, I love this so much, that I'm about ready to go get a 226 elite dark TB to match.

Hell, i've got my 220 sitting in my range bag in my car right now, with my 45Osprey mounted on the barrel. I'm excited to go shoot after work.

Re: Opinions on Sig 220 Dark Elite

I don't know what "anti-sig stuff" you have heard lately, but Sigs are consistently some of the best factory production pistols available in my experience and that includes the P220 DE models.

The P220 and P226 line ups are two of my go-to pistol platforms (depending on the situation). If it was me, I would hold out for a TB (threaded barrel) model, but otherwise, if the price is right, I wouldn't miss a beat to pick one up.

Re: Opinions on Sig 220 Dark Elite

I own the Elite Dark with tb and the Elite Carry Dark. I have a Burris Fastfire milled into the slide of the full sized frame, and it cowitnesses perfectly with the suppressor sights. I have nearly 5k through the fullsize and 2k through the carry, both without a failure. I can't imagine another gun after owning these.

Re: Opinions on Sig 220 Dark Elite

I have a sig 229 elite dark with sig 357 and 40 cal barrels. I shoot the 357 sig mainly and its never failed me. The short reset trigger is nice imo. I have the version with the aluminum grips and its thick. I have big hands and it is still a hand full. I think have have new molded grips now. Would be nice if it was a little slimmer but can't really complain.

Re: Opinions on Sig 220 Dark Elite

I'd love to see some pics with an osprey .. Thats my plan for it. I have put off buying a 220 for years just cause I honestly am afraid I'll like it better than my ol faithful trp operator. I could always make the excuse about the grip being to big but now... I'm all out of excuses... Crap I guess I'm buying a gun in the morning

Re: Opinions on Sig 220 Dark Elite

I'll get some pics of my 220 and osprey up tonight. Its a winning combination, and it balances extremely well. Usually a can throws the balance quite a bit forward, but the osprey balances the 220 just above the trigger.

Re: Opinions on Sig 220 Dark Elite

OK so, that wasn't long.. I traded my 229 for it but it was worth it.
Just got back from the range (sorry for the bad pic) absolutly a dream to shoot. The short reset trigger is very appearant.
Unreal accuracy.
I only have two minor gripes.. and they are little ones
1. The Magazines need to be loaded by Thor
2. I've been shooting my 1911s so long I had to change my grip a few times before I was shooting dead center.

Great gun though, in fact really great gun.

Re: Opinions on Sig 220 Dark Elite

I have the P220 Elite Dark and it's been a great performer so far. I carry a P229 in 357Sig for work and this P220 has the same controls. It's much slimmer and carries way better than the P229.

I bought mine used/unfired and it came with both the aluminum and CT laser grips. I actually like the CT grips better...even though I don't use the laser that much. The magazines are solid as well.

Respectfully,

HA!! Fortunately, after a couple hundred rounds or so through each mag, they do break in a little, but my thumb feels your thumb's pain!!

Re: Opinions on Sig 220 Dark Elite

Easy way to fix the mag issue (atleast this is what I did)

Load them to full cap, which means fighting to get the 8th one in.

then leave it loaded for a couple weeks.

That broke mine in enough to make loading easier. Also, check the follower in the mag. See if the follower has any drag on the inside of the mag body, and lightly sand the sides of the follower with some 600 grit sandpaper if it does.

Re: Opinions on Sig 220 Dark Elite

I'll load em up tonight... I was planning on 500 rounds today at the range but I could only get threw 150 before my fingers and thumb got raw. Don't call me a sissy, but I do have dainty hands.

Re: Opinions on Sig 220 Dark Elite

Sigs are great guns, I love my sigs and they have never failed me in any aspect under any conditions. The elites are really nice looking too so thats always a plus. i would say youd be hard pressed to find a better handgun then a sig especially if you have larger hands because they are considerably wider and larger than most other handguns out there. But just out of curiousity what anti sig stuff have you heard recently?

Re: Opinions on Sig 220 Dark Elite (pics NEW)

Sgt. 0811,

Nice looking Sig! I can't believe how many different variations of the P220 are out there! I didn't even know that one existed. I got to try a customer's P220 SAO at the range once, NICE GUN also!

The ergo's of the Sig P220/226/229 are very nice. I believe it'll serve you well.

An idea for your magazine break in. Load it with SEVEN, then if you have a mag-loader, compress-release-compress-release (repeat numerous times) to wear-in the spring. Just compressing it and keeping it static(as in loaded for a week or three) doesn't seem to do much in my experience.

Either way, enjoy!

Re: Opinions on Sig 220 Dark Elite

I saw the 226 elite dark (corrected.. I thought it was dark elite) last month in a magazine. I was hoping there was a 220 version. It would've been perfect if it was an Sao but, close enough. Last night I did some dry fire work. The double action pull is still pretty heavy.. Maybe 10ish lbs. But the different trigger helps a lot with control. I may shoot it again today or tomorrow. I'll take some group pics this time. Still very impressed with it. More to follow

Re: Opinions on Sig 220 Dark Elite

I love my glocks and sig 220 is my favorite sig and 45 pistol. my only gripe with the 220 is mag capacity, when you are used to 15-17 rds, 8 is just slide locks way too fast, nothing a boat load of mags can't cure though.
congrats on buying a great pistol.

This is the first time I read anything ani sig... After shooting today, I can't imagine why
</div></div>

If you pay attention when reading that thread, you'll notice the majority of the sentiment comes from 1 or 2 guys and HAS NOTHING to do with reliability, accuracy, or customer service. It does have everything to do with strong personal opinions against the DA/SA type of action.

I've owned a Sig, but I have an issue with the slide stop (my thumbs sit right on top of it when shooting high thumbs). This is mostly a training/software issue but I don't see a need to change after countless thousands of rounds through the SA only platform of the 1911.

Long story short, ignore the tiny anti-sig sentiment you heard. You like the gun and that's what matters. I have never seen anyone criticize Sig's reliability on those stalwart models like P220,225,226, 228, 229, 245, and the like.

+1!!

The issues raised in that thread are ones of personal preference/likes/dislikes and nothing to do with the pistols themselves. If you dislike Sigs because you prefer striker-fired vs. traditional DA/SA operation...fine. But it has ZERO to do with the rugged reliability, accuracy, quality of manufacturing/service/etc., of the Sig P-series lineup.

Re: Opinions on Sig 220 Dark Elite

K. Just got back from the range with some suprising results.

First this is 7 yards, first pull DA and the rest in SA
7yards.jpg

Next this is 7 yards with every other shot in DA, so fire DA fire SA decock and repeat as fast as I could aquire the sights (not as fast as my TRP Operator, but few things are without a compansator)
7yardsDASA.jpg

Last this is 15 yards (16.6) or 50 feet. Slow fire all Double action
15yardsDA.jpg

I'm doing better with the DA than SA... wierd.

Re: Opinions on Sig 220 Dark Elite

and if anyone knows a cure for the side to side group lemme know, I was concentrating on pulling the trigger straight back towerd me but still getting some side to side stuff going on

Re: Opinions on Sig 220 Dark Elite

I get side-to-side groups when I am applying too much of the grip pressure with my right hand (firing hand). Assuming you are right handed, make sure you are getting better than half of your grip from you left hand, I think they say something like 60 or 70%.

Just one opinion, there will be 100 more to follow.

Good luck.

Re: Opinions on Sig 220 Dark Elite

J-Ham is on it with the grip pressure, and you already know about making sure you're pulling the trigger straight to the rear. One other thing to look for with the side to side impact strings is making sure your non-firing hand is applying pressure to the grip but that you're not pulling to the rear with it. This type of pressure, when firing right handed, will cause your groups to string to the left.

Nice shooting and is making me want another Sig....
