I habe the hornady lock n load single stage and ive done over 25000 rounds on it abd its time to move on. Ive got someone who is willing to buy the press and some other stuff that i dont need to get him loading rounds and hes gonna give me 200 bucks for everything. So ive been looking at the redding big boss 2. I like that the primers drop down inside the ram. Its a big press so i wont need anything bigger unless i wanna load 50 cal. But here lies the problem, the biggest cartridge i load for is 308win. I also load 223 rem, 9x19 45 auto and will eventually load 357. So i dont need a press this big but fuck it it will only cost me like 50 bucks after tax and shipping. Any body on here load 308win on a big boss 2 and if they do does it work good for you or is the press to big for that size cartridge? And no i dont want rcbs garbage

I've loaded ammo for out to 1k without a problem on my T7. There are some that use a turret to load a round by turning the head to each station so they only handle a round once. Have you considered keeping your lock and load and adding a progressive? I was well under 25k when I got tired of pulling the handle 3 or 3 times per round.

At some point i am going to buy a hornady AP press for my auto loading rifles and pistols but when loading for long range id prefer to do it on a single stage

    Get a Co-Ax. Done.
Na i dont like the co-ax

After ready gavins report i dont think i can go wrong with the big boss 2. I dont like how the hand sitson the mec or coax

I understand, I have both depending on what I'm doing. I started with a RockChucker and loaded a couple thousand .45 ACP on it. I've heard good things about the Hornady presses.

I've never heard of a press being to big. A Dillon 750 is a taller 650 with a redesigned primer feed. It'll still do .25 ACP if you have dies. The Big Boss 2 is a good press.

3 words Dillon Dillon Dillon.... And what is this too big for 308 bs?
Listen ive never saw the big boss 2 in person so i have no idea if the ram stroke is to long to make 308 win without being a pain in the ass

They can make it as big as a refrigerator but at the end of the day it's still a reloading press, so you should be able to load everything/anything on it as long as you have the right dies.

Ram has to go all the way up to meet the die, so I can't picture why it would specifically be a challenge for a .308.

Lyman Brass Smith All American 8 Turret Press

I have one and really like it. I get next to nothing for runout, less than .001. It is also nice to not have to remove the dies after use. Set them up 1 time and you are done.

Im probably making more out of it than what it is. Im sure i will love tge press

If 3/5 of your calibers are pistol I would SERIOUSLY consider a progressive now. My 550 makes accurate .223 and 6.5cm ammo. I know you said a Hornady ammo plant possibly later, but could hit two birds with one stone here.

    Whats your budget?

Dillon 550's are pretty reasonable. They also have aftermarket toolheads that are way cheaper. You don't need a casefeeder, everything for them is cheaper than the 650/750 series.

The only thing you'd need is shellplates and tool heads on top of the press price. .45 and .308 have the same shellplates.

IF the 550 is out of your budget, then 100% a turret press. The Lyman 8 station sounds like a good budget press option. I can't imagine loading pistol on a single stage. Plus you'll have $200 from your selling the setup, so you'd only need another 200 or so for a Dillon 550 setup.

Shit someone might have one on here they'd part with

you make a good point but i load mostly for rifle and fuck around with pistol but i already bought the big boss 2 so next im gonna be looking for a good used hornady ap press because i still have all the lock n load bushings

something on line of this lol you could start your own munitions plant and sell extra ammo to me :love::love:
such a happy video almost like heaven .

I think the big boss II is the nicest single stage press on the market. Not a fan of the co-ax either.

    Cant afford the dillon

IIRC I purchased my 550 as a BL and I think it was around $258. I have since added the Dillon powder measure since I have moved to ball powders because I have grown tired of hand weighing each charge after doing it for 14 years. I used my as a turret press before adding the Dillon PM. It made just as accurate ammo as the single stage RC.

Loading Pistol ammo on a single stage is like jerking off only using one knuckle on your pinky while watching porn on a 320x200 resolution black and white.
I dont shoot alot of pistol so i dont care how long it takes. If i was shooting IDPA or something then yea id upgrade but im only shooting like 500 rounds or less a year between 9mm and 45

Well have fun. When you're ready for a progressive I suggest a Dillon 550 or 750...FYI it makes rifle ammo too, and very well at that.

Im confident that most guys that are making precision rifle ammo are not using a dillon, just saying

Ahhhhh yes with all of your experience with progressives right?

You ask a question, get good advice, piss on everyones responses, only to buy the press you talked about in the first place right after your initial post. You say you reload for pistol ammo, but then say you only shoot 500 rounds a year...

and now you laugh at the thought, and the reality, that Dillon's can make precision ammo. If you spent any amount of time on here, or with precision shooters, you'd know that Dillons can, and do make precision ammo.

I never said they didnt but dont tell me there isnt a possibility of having more runout on a progressive press than on a single stage. If i wanted a ap press i would of bought one, the original post was about redding big boss 2 not dillion progressive press. Im not pissing on dillion, if i wanted info on a fucking dillion press i would of asked about it. In all seriousness tho i appreciate getting responses to the question

I only shoot 500 pistol, i shoot 1500 308 win and about 8000 223, which sucks on a single stage to make

Runout doesn't mean shit if you CAN'T hit the target. Runout also doesn't mean shit If you CAN hit the target. Runout isn't the end all be all. And the possibility of runout has nothing to do with why I snapped at what you said. You insinuated that Dillon's can't make precision ammo, and you're wrong. Guys have won matches, titles, championships, whatever you wanna call it, with Dillons.

I only shoot 500 pistol, i shoot 1500 308 win and about 8000 223, which sucks on a single stage to make

Exactly....which is why guys were recommending at a Minimum a turret press... because it would greatly increase your efficiency.

and this is the exact reason I recommended a progressive. because its even faster, and can make just as good of ammo. At minimum it would change the game completely for you for reloading .223.

Threads are the most fun when the op asks a question to which they have already made up their mind on, then shit on any response from people with knowledge of all the items.

Judging on the amount of rounds you shoot a year a used 650 would be perfect.

I’ve got a 650, coax, Lee classic and hornady single stage(forgot the model). I load everything on the 650 and only 6x47/6.5prc on the coax. The other presses collect dust.

I’ve won plenty of local matches with 650 loaded 223 that is single digit SDs.

If you can make ammo that is 1moa or less with sub20 ES quickly so you can practice more, IMO that’s much better than jerking it with your pinky and having .1moa ammo that takes forever to load.

At the end of the day, get out and shoot more.

Christ what is with this pissing on people replys. I never did that. In the original post i asked if anybody loads 308win on a redding big boss 2. I threw in the part about rcbs being garbage just to be a dick, and then i get a slew of bullshit about every press under the sun except for redding. It dosent matter how many times people keep saying dillion im not gonna buy one. Are they good presses, yes but i think there overpriced and its not what i want or need or can afford at this time. I sold my shit to buy the redding. I shoot roughly 75 to 150 rounds of 308 every week so stop with this load more shoot more, cuz the limit is money, i cant afford to shoot more than 150 rounds a week. So going out and buying a dillion means atleast 3 o 4 weeks of NO shooting untill i can pay for more bullets and powder.

You wanted confirmation on decent equipment, it was given.

A Dillon 650 will load precision rifle ammo. You weren't interested in progressive so you got advice for what you wanted. Had I noticed the RCBS garbage comment I would have corrected it earlier.

    Best of luck.

Nice, yall are pricks but i expect no less

lol it’s what should be expected here I suppose.

that all being said, no body shit on your spot out of random malevolent behavior.

the title of your post is “Opinions in what press I should buy”

So at a minimum, maybe think about wording it differently next time.

and not everyone on this forum is rich, including myself, so money is a limit a lot of times. And it’s fine to say Dillon’s are out of the budget, they’re not cheap....but I think it’s when you added in “nobody makes precision ammo on them”... then you get shit on more.

if you’re not gonna filter your Posts and responses, then it’s almost a guarantee you’re gonna shit on by someone lol...

Quick everyone! Let’s all laugh at the retard!

Bitches about a problem and then bitches about the best solution because it would cost 300 dollars 😮 more and solve his gripe with his “preferred” solution perfectly.
Seriously, cutting your nose off to spite your face

Yea kinda but if somebody told me that the press is to big for 308 than i prolly would of did more looking

Gawd, I wish I had enough desire to go find the meme with the Burger King mini burgers.....

Don't know how to work a big tool, only used to a short stroker...

Don't shoot much and take comfort in holding those tiny rounds, it makes my hands feel large...

Don't have the need for a progressive, but it sucks to load this all on a single stage.

Some comedy gold here without throwing in anybody else's quotes. Even so, I couldn't stop myself .

Too big for the tiny hands that smell like cabbage!

Hahaha god that meme is funny. Well I hope you're not getting discouraged from posting again or taking all the advice on here. If this thread has really bothered you I might suggest a simple swallow of the pride and a tad thicker skin.

This really is one of the best places to get good information.

I don't think theres anyone of this entire forum who hasn't said something contradictory or air-headed at some point lol

Lol, not at all, and I figured that. But I can't decipher entire personalities based off forum responses so just figured I'd give my share of advice in case you were pissed. I've seen people get pretty bent out of shape on here, so just lending the ole olive branch or whatever...
