I just bought the wife an Ambush and need optics for it. Looking for decent quality and not going to break the bank. She is not going to shoot often but dont want bottom of the line. Im really more interested in weight so the mount will be important to me as well. Im thinking something like a 2.5-10 or so. Ive got a Weaver Kaspa but feels a little heavy on gun. Gonna do my research but want more of a direction before i start. Any info will help guys.

A grand is about as high as want to go. Would prefer to stay around 500 to 800 if possible and I'm not against used optics. Was thinking Vortex or Trijicon but not sure if they are my best options for weight. I know they have good glass but like i said Weight is a big factor to me. Also the mount is gonna be an issue. Ive got a Burris PEPR and a RockRiver one piece but want to know if there are lighter options that still hold up. We mainly hunt hogs and she won't take shots out past 150 for a while. There is a chance i might use the scope on other rifles if she doesn't like it. You know how women are.

In that price range, Viper PST 1-4 comes up on my short list.

At that distance, really you could go with a red-dot. Say a vortex strikefire. Low-er cost, a single ring, so can't get much lighter.

If she gets into the hunting, you'll have a better idea of how heavy the rifle is at the end of the day, and how much more weight she will tolerate. If she decides "I'm not into this" you don't have a lot of cash tied up in something that didn't work out

I'm a fan of trijicon glass. The accupoints are super light weight, with the 3-9x40 at 12.8 oz. The Vortex PST 2.5-10x32 would be heavier but not really 'heavy' and is a excellent compact scope. The Leupold VXR Patrol has nice illumination, good glass and is light weight, the reticle is a little thick and messy, but useable. For a cheap but quality option, there is the good ole Weaver Tac 3-10x40 too, and not a risky investment for $300, like the Leupy Mk AR.

For light weight mounts, the Leupold Mk 2 IMS I have seems fairly light weight (listed 6.3 oz.) and came free with the Mk AR.

Not even that.

But realize, my wife did the Bang Steel course with me, and was hitting the steel at 1040 yards.

And has given me me two Pythons over the years.

She is a keeper.
