Owning a boat

Wife and i are thinking about getting a new one. Hate to get rid of the maverick but we’ll see. Its paid for and runs great and unlike cassletons handles the chop great. Oh mike there is a place down by you guys that has a hell of a deal on a jackplate and powerpole combo will see if i can find again and get it to youView attachment 7044260

When you own a fishing boat that the family can ski behind and hit the sand bar the best day’s of a boat owner’s life is when he buys it and pays it off cuz he should never sell it?

Nice Maverick , here’s mine:

One the wife and i are eyeballing. maybe loonhunter will come through so it can happen a little soonerView attachment 7044302

Skip that poling platform. Ain't no way you're gonna push that thing around with a carbon fiber stick.
Now, on the other hand, if it's a dance platform, get it. ;)

Lol yeah right on that. The one on the maverick is more of a table for the wife. If and when we get a new one it will be sans platform for sure

Maverick 18?

And yes, as others have said, if it flies floats or fucks, rent it, don’t buy it.

I’ll still never learn, but as the kids move out, think a boat that’s more for me than ones I’ve had for them could be appealing.

Yes a 18 master angler. They dont make anymore and if you can find one they are pricey but great riding boats. 17’s seem to be more available down here and an occasional 21 will popup for sale. Like i said great riding, handle chop well and pretty stable platforms

Here's my buddy Jim's new Shearwater the day of delivery. 300 Merc on the back.

Black, no numbers. Must be something to it.. Hehe!

Damn thats a nice one for sure. Should float and fly.
Thats it. I am gonna get me a black boat so i dont have any numbers on it. Only if i can drag it down to you for the waxing of it

Mine needs a waxing again. Had to sand a scratch on the left side just behind the reg numbers and I still have to go a couple more sandings before it's blended.

Your hull looks really nice. Any reason for you not to just do a repower with a 4 stroke? Suzuki motors are inexpensive and quiet. My next door neighbor put a 200 on the back of his 2200 Pathfinder and it's pretty sweet.

Mike, Nothin at all wrong with mine. Motor still cranks every time( probably wont now) just when we make the drag over to the gulf scalloping and fishing usually have at least 3 goin. Specially scallopin aint really worth it for only two to go. So just looking for a lil more room and capacity is all. We ususlly go over about 6-8 times a year over there. Again we are just eyeballing right now may not get a new one

These are nice pics of fishing boats and whatnot guys. Anyone around here have a cabin-cruiser and/or the like? Stateroom(s), galley, head, that sort of thing?

Boats that can be lived on for periods of time, say a week or two? And of course 'fish' whilst doing so. HA.

That Maverick you got @Northfl looks damn sweet. What part of FL you in?

Maybe a Bear Pit Boat meetup could happen with @Mike Casselton and anyone else. Y’all boats could do circles around my little 20 HP 4 striker Yama lol

A meet up would be pretty cool.

Don't put that little 20hp Yami down. On the right hull, it will out run my boat.
The absolute top end speed I've seen was on a rippled surface and I got a whopping 31.8 @6050 rpm.

I had an old 1978 Johnson 25 on a Gheenoe and it would top out at 34 with a 10 pitch prop.

Is a total bitch. Seems every time I turn around I keep finding something new I have to fix and drop money on, then try to hope the CFO doesn’t notice.

Latest one: came home from another long week on the road to find out that the new fuel/water separator I put in decided to leak while I was gone.

Ha!
I thought this sounded familiar...

I am up in jax. Yes a meetup would pretty fun. And like mike said, dont discount the 20 horse. You could run circles around us when we are stuck in the mud.
With the wife and i and a half tank of fuel i can hit 52 mph. Full tank get ariund 48 but only turning 51-5200 rpm’s Could do some outboard work and get 70 but 50 is plenty fast enough now that i am older.

Ain't got no pics in the water anymore. Hmmmmff.

The itty bitty skiff for the tributaries, and the center console for everything else I throw at it. Poor boat. It's been beat to hell.

Paid it off TO-FUGGIN-DAY! Zero issues in the three seasons I’ve had it. 2004 bass tracker pro crappie 17.5 with mercury 40 4s and humminbird sidescan. Kinda packed in at the moment but it won’t be long till I’m filling the freezer again.

Made the mistake of taking the wife with me to get parts yesterday, and she took one look at a Key West Bay boat and decided then when we upgrade from my little aluminum skiff, that’s the size she wants. Still ain’t told her the price of the sucker lol

I’m in Jax too, went ya a PM

Haven’t fully gotten to open the 20 up yet, hopefully with this new bug worked out I’ll get a chance, weather permitting, to take it out this next weekend and see what she can do. I’m glad I went with the 4 stroke electric start ptt over the other one I looked at.

I have caught a pile of fish over the years out of a lil ol beater aluminum boat. Fresh and saltwater from trolling for spanish mackrel at the jetties to bream in creeks at lake george
