Owning a boat

Stupid question here. Y’all using an outboard in salt water? I didn’t know they could do that.
Anodes.

Either zinc or magnesium anodes are the KEY to metals in water. Either fresh OR salt, believe it or not. We've got magnesium anodes on our boat, and it has ONLY ever seen freshwater. And over the years they have corroded/eroded away somewhat.

This is due to electrolysis in water, ANY water, though it is definitely much stronger in saltwater. And yes, the anodes are there specifically for that reason, for them to be the 'softest' material there. They are the 'sacrificial metal' to protect all other metals.

I'll add this. Some would think that if they left the leg of their engine up out of the water, that THAT would save the leg/mount/transom/etc. from erosion, right? WRONG. The anodes are on each component of the structure, and work in unison together. Pulling the leg up out of the water removes some of the anodes from the water, and that gives STRONGER differential area to be affected by the electrolysis.

Everything needs to be balanced/grounded electrically. We are located in the center of the continent, and it's still a concern.

@Mike Casselton or anyone else; you ever fished out of Horseshoe Beach? I got a company fishing tourney I’ll be going to two weekends from now and never fished there.
J used to fish out of there a bunch. Mostly offshore though. Aint nothing there. Probably still no cel service, if yall are stYing the night het groceries in cross city, ( none there either) there is a small restaurant when you first come into it but thats about it
There is a public ramp to launch at, hug the bank till you get to the jetty( it aint nothin like mayoort. Real small and narrow) head north towards pepperfish key. Its probably about 6-7miles. Get in about 4-6 ft of water and start lookikg for the white spots in the grass. Throw a popping cork with about a 4’ leader tied to a jighead and a gulp shrimp in white with either a pink or green tail. Just whip it out as far as you can and work it back to the boat. And drift around doing that and you should pick up same thing we get on this coast. Trout bite is real good there this time of the year. Be careful and watch your depth gets super skinny and easy to run aground or tear a foot off if running. Lots of pinfish will eat the tails off of the gulp so carry plenty of them. Need anymore info, hit me up. I go just north of there to steinhatchee a few times a year now

Time on the water can not be taken from you.

This is not from a Navy background. Lol

There is always something to fix or upgrade, do not let that deter you from your passion. Get it done.

Have survived holes, fire, ice, sleet, snow, large hail, a couple of tornadoes inshore and offshore.
Most of which was in Texas. Lol

Does not matter the manner of craft the desire will overcome.

Do not forget the PFD, have used mine a couple of times.

A bad day fishing is still better than a good day at work. And even if the rod isn't in the water at the moment, you're either 'getting ready to fish' or 'preparing for the next fishing experience'.

On the water, one is never, EVER "not fishing". Those words just don't exist in the english language together. One is ALWAYS fishing, in one context or another.

Never ending. 700.00 on new crossmembers for the trailer, all stainless hardware new carpet for the bunks, new guide post, tons of drilling and jacking things around, still have to drag it down to the lake and get boat off trailer to replace the carpet. Then do foot oil and replace old jack plate solenoids. It never seems to end all while working the regular job and cutting grass and getting the swimming pool ready for summer. Never ending i tell ya

My little john boat is rotting away at my work right now. I moved to a smaller place with no room to store it or bring it home. Now I'm thinking about selling it. It's an old 15.5' Sea Nymph that I decked and carpeted. It has a livewell, tackle storage and everything a real fishing boat has, just 1/3 the size haha! I certainly agree the best boat is a friends boat. Less hassle and maintenance. Just give some gas money and help clean it. Supposedly the two best days of owning a boat are the day you buy it and the day you sell it.

16 years ago I starting working in the fishing industry...and now I fish less than I did before I started. I am traveling back and forth between So-Cal and Charleston, SC for work. I haven't been on the water in months. The weather just won't be nice while I have a free weekend. Shit I don't even have time to shoot my new rifle build.

The only boat I want is one I was on as a kid, a real life PT boat. I'll stick to cars and motorcycles, there's another Ducati coming my way in a few months. I know I'm pathetic, the fish I like is MacDonald's Filet of Fish.
