i have a SSS stock on my 22 savage and what is the best way to paint and seal and finish this stock so it will not wear? it will see alot of ranch/field use so i would like a sturdy coating and method of applying it

the stock is currently red/black unfinished laminate

Re: painting a laminate stock

Sand down the glossy finish (220 grit), prime, paint and than use a top coat. They make a matte finish top coat, which is good since I'm sure you want to paint it a camo theme, so you don't want the shine.

Maybe a bit more work,
sand all old varnish, oils or waxes off with around 120 grit.
Wipe down stock with a rag soaked in acetone. Let dry.
Find very light glass cloth, maybe from RC hobby shop. 1-2 oz cloth. Apply with thin laminating epoxy, maybe thinned with acetone. Very lightly sand after curing and apply second coat of epoxy thin without acetone.
Carefully dry sand with very fine grit, apply stippeling, then spray.
