Panera runs a socialist experiment and if fails HAHA. And now the IRS wants their cut. HAHAHA

The IRS going after them is just the icing on the cake.
Another great Socialist experiment goes down as an epic flaming failure as could have been predicted at the start.
Their whole virtue signalling / shaming BS idea was such a crock of crap, only a SJW Communist Democrat could have thought it was a good plan.

When you set up a system where everyone gets the same amount and quality of goods regardless of effort / monies exchanged and there is no incentive to earn more rewards via harder work, those who are working harder still getting the same deal as their peers who are not doing shit, WHAT THE FUCK do you expect?

Today's BEST news so far. I am happy to hear that they got fucked up. They tried to forcibly condition people to go against human nature, and they failed. It is no different from the other leftists trying to turn all men into cowardly, useless beta cucks.

The one point that is lost on all these stupid SJW guys is that the Capitalist system does a pretty good job already in most places in this country of making food available at price points to suit most levels of income, if people are actually intelligent and try to stretch their money without being really picky.

Then add to that a bit of proper food charity run by volunteers who feed the hungry with food that would otherwise be excess scrap or left to expire & tell people at the free level that we won't let you starve, but you'll need to not be picky. Food banks & soup kitchens etc.

It's actually the Government and the Lawyers and SJW "Equality" drum beaters that make it harder to get excess / scrap food to those who could use it. Also if you have no money, you have to be willing to not be all proud and demanding. (Long ago I learned that in a pinch you could get lots of good food / clothes / housewares by knowing which dumpsters to check and when, assuming a first world wealthy country). It would be very easy to redistribute stuff that was going to be thrown out on an industrial organized scale with just a bit of getting the government / lawyers greedy hands out of it.

I ate at one twice, the food was good if you don't mind extra carbs.
I tried twice. Both times they were out of bread bowls for their signature item, soup in a bread bowl. Their sandwiches are over priced and largely unappetizing and their salads can be beaten by any of the large garbage franchises.

I don’t think so...

Economics 101.... if you give something away for free, people are not going to pay for it.

The average person that eats at Panera is not “wealthy”....they don’t have the means to pay 2x the cost for their food to cover the cost of someone who doesn’t want to pay.

These are schemes thought up by people who didn’t have to work for their money.... and don’t know what it’s like to be “working class” and having to watch your expenses.

Socialism doesn't work because people are shitty. They always take more than they give. It's why we as a society value those who really do go above and beyond. It's not the norm, it's the exception. Even if there was enough for everyone, someone would horde more and monetize it somehow. Greed is not a class, it's a human condition.

It is also an innate survival and defense mechanism. No matter how utopian thinkers try to portray human beings as 'ascended', naturally full-of-goodness creatures capable of sharing resources in collective living, human beings are just another life form trying to survive in a very hostile world where EVERYONE and EVERYTHING is competing for resources, living space, and wealth.

Those who are not "greedy" or "selfish" enough WILL be preyed upon by more aggressive members of the community. "A fool and his money are soon parted". Whether that parting is done through cunning trickery or brute force as in a mugging, it will happen because the mark is too weak, either intellectually or physically, to safeguard his assets. That is the nature of life. If you cannot keep up with the flow, you will be physically bumped out of the way.

The scheme is a joke. Totally different, yet a little related is that there was a slip of paper inserted into our bill envelope from the local (government run) hydro company. It was a "how generous are you" type request, of "just put whatever number you're comfortable with today" to pay EXTRA on your bill. This will assist you in being neighborly and helping to pay for the hydro that some of your neighbors can't quite afford so easily as you.

Yeah, I'll get right on that.

I'm surprised this didn't work. It would have worked better, if they had administered the program with more of a Communist mindset, rather than socialist.

So they needed guns, so they could go to the bank and kill the bad people there who refused to pay enough to support the system, then take their money build mansions for them selves and feed the poor with the remainder.

See? It's simple. Why bother with the socialism part?
Just go strait to the communism.
Shoot all the really really smart and or successful people, take their money. Feed the poor with the leftovers.

You get it, I get it, why haven't smart people everywhere figured out this system to be superior?

The logic is fucking awesome....

Panera - "We are a charitable institution and should be tax free."

IRS - "Why did you close your stores?"

Panera - "Our charity wasnt creating profit."

IRS - "Lets see 20% of $8 mil = $1,600,000 you owe us"

The local Panera strikes me as a Starbucks for sandwiches. Doesn't panera mean bread in Latin?

The Interwebs is your friend:

In 1997, Au Bon Pain changed the company name to Panera, from the Spanish panera meaning "granary" or "breadbasket." At the same time, the St. Louis Bread Company renovated its 20 bakery-cafés in the St. Louis area.

A prime example of why charity must be personal/local.
Those that have know who is in need and who is in want.
The wanters will always ask for more and abuse the giver.
They skate through life trying to get by on foolish charity.
Those in need are where these ideals should be applied, knowing the difference is the trick.
I forsee a "deal" being cut on these tax liabilities.
Maybe Rev Al will pay it foward, Lolz.

While that sounds good in a sound bite, that is actually very close to what the Communists use as their propaganda. "If we can just make people better then Communism will work this time" and BS like that.

The actual issue is that it's against Nature and the entire order of life on the planet.
On the whole planet, everything down to the grass on the lawn, the microbes on your skin, even in the dirt, every living organism is in a fight to survive & a fight for resources. So when you try to setup a system where nobody has to struggle and everything is just easy and done for you and handed to you, it is doomed to failure. Even if we could setup such a system and make it work with futuristic matter altering technology, it would be the destruction of the human race as people would get lazy and devolve (much like we are seeing today).

This is why Charity on a personal, local, small community scale is the only way to go. You or a group of yous see a person who tries their best but is having a rough time or life has really thrown some things at them and they are in a bit of a hole & need help getting out, you can help them with what they need to get back on their feet. That lets you weed out the loosers who never want to do anything for themselves.

Greed is not a problem specifically unless it is taken overboard to where you allow the greed of some to start destroying the lives of others & their ability to have a productive life. As always you can't have a hard fast rule because almost anything taken to excess tends to be destructive.

Interestingly enough the Communists found this out (including the National Socialists) and in most countries run by them, you were "guaranteed' food and shelter and a job and if you didn't show up for the job... well you went to the Gulag or concentration camp.

It's a very fine line to walk, to help give people a hand up, while not rewarding laziness, and as always the moment the Government or big business gets involved it always degenerates to the most "needy" and "greedy" lazy louts getting everything at an ever higher and higher cost to the productive class.

Exactly, that's why I refuse to participate. Why should I pay for their corporate tax deduction?

I feel bad for the folks who work there and take abuse. When one of these intermittent drives opens up they have a rough day.
I always try to cheer them up. It’s not them making the decisions.

“I am for doing good to the poor, but...I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it. I observed...that the more public provisions were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course became poorer. And, on the contrary, the less was done for them, the more they did for themselves, and became richer.”

JAB’s portfolio includes a minority stake in the consumer products company Reckitt Benckiser,[6] and majority stakes in Coty, Inc., Peet’s Coffee & Tea, Caribou Coffee Company, Jacobs Douwe Egberts (JDE), and Einstein Noah Restaurant Group.[7][8][9][10] JAB also owns Bally, Belstaff, Zagliani, Espresso House and Baresso Coffee A/S.[11][12][13] JAB has given up on the plan to establish a holding of luxury goods makers, selling off its flagship fashion brands Jimmy Choo (now Michael Kors) and Belstaff (now Ineos). JAB owns a minority stake in Bally after selling it to Chinese Shandong Ruyi.[14]

In August 2014, under the Peet's Coffee and Tea brand, JAB acquired Mighty Leaf Tea, a specialty tea retailer based in the San Francisco Bay Area.[15] In October 2015, Peet's Coffee & Tea also acquired a majority stake in Chicago-based Intelligentsia Coffee & Tea,[16] making this the second purchase in a month following the acquisition of Portland, Oregon's Stumptown Coffee.

In March 2016, JAB and other investors acquired Keurig Green Mountain for $13.9 billion.[17][18] In May 2016, JAB-controlled JAB Beech reached an agreement to acquire US doughnut shop operator Krispy Kreme for $1.35 billion.[19] On 5 April 2017, JAB reached an agreement to buy U.S.-based Panera Bread, a fast casual bakery-café chain, for $7.5 billion.[20] On 24 August 2017, JAB announced the acquisition of Bruegger's Bagels.[21]

On 29 January 2018, Keurig Green Mountain announced it was acquiring Dr Pepper Snapple Group, with JAB owning 87% of the combined companies.[22]

JAB is known for having extended terms of trade: some coffee roasters owned by JAB have been reported as requiring up to 300 days of financing from suppliers.[23]

Only one person in this world can "guilt" me into anything. Used to be my mom, but the wife took over in '87.

You aren't kidding. It was one of the reasons I left UPS, and I was a supervisor. After I paid my bills each month, I only had about $150 a month to eat and entertain myself. I didn't give to the United Way my last year, I simply couldn't afford it as school costs and rent went up. The Hub Manager tried giving me a full press guilt trip, in front of all the other supervisors in a meeting. I told him why I did not donate, told him to fuck off and walked out, never to return. Jaws on the floor, mic drop.

It WAS disgusting how they pressure even the lowest seniority worker to give beyond their means.

Oh, and it is nice to see you posting again, Veer_G.

Wasnt United Way one of the worst charities as far as money vs money to the intended recipient goes?

Most of these charities are nothing but job mills with big overhead costs and minimal money out to the needy.
