They thought he would be a pushover for hitlery so they let him run in the primary. They needed a couple people to run in order to make it look legit. They had no idea he was about to hijack the party. They used their Super Delegates to shaft him and put him in his place.
This time they are flirting with the devil in order to beat Trump. After 16 they changed how their super delegates work. They will vote at the convention if no one gets 50% of the delegates.
They are hoping to shaft Bernie then.
