There's already a 10¢ / box tax on ammunition sold in Tennessee, stamped and everything, and is why I ordered in nearly 100% of my ammo there from out of state. They're not the "Patron state of shooting shit" as much as they would like to be perceived as such. Taxing ammunition at the federal level to be prohibitively costly has been on the dem platform for quite some time.
The tax on soda is just like additional taxes on tobacco and fuel (and alcohol as mentioned earlier), taxing to effect behavior changes of a free people who really aren't as free as they're told by the government they are. It's also just another Democrat founded and supported direct tax on the poor as well, because it's typically the poor who like soda, tobacco, have to commute long distances because of gentrified downtown housing costs, and like to have a drink to ease their shitty lives for the evening when they get home.
