What's the longest distance Scott? Being trying to make one of these for the longest time. Also, is there a caliber limit (anything less than 30 cal)?

Man! I'm going to miss this one. And I was so looking forward to 110 in the shade!

Actually, I think I've got even worse ahead - we leave Sat AM for Buffalo (yes, on purpose). Nothing like 100 degrees with 80% humidity!

My niece just graduated from High School, so there is a big family gathering.

You guys (and gals) have fun!

I don't have $70 right now between some things coming up personally and building the rifle (it is a poor man’s stick but it is a start) there is $0 in my budget right now. Maybe next month if I can get rid of a few things I can get the funds together for the rounds. I appreciate the offer very much though!

Scott that is nice of you but I have no ammo or entrance fee so I will strive for next month. If I can get my garage cleaned up (bloody hot out there and the wife has me working on her project list lately) I know I have a few items to get rid of in there and that should help cover the cost.

gettin it out ain't the hard part, it's takin that bitch down when it's 108 out and the steel's been sittin in the sun that sucks.

that being said, i'm with lowe, lets run some steel.

i can help saturday morning, but friday night is a no-go.

I get a decent fkin scope
I get my 308 put back in stock when it comes back from Phantom
I get my ammo straight(bough a giraurd)
I have confidence in what the fk i'm doing, this is the worst year ive ever had behind a rifle

Next Month is the 21st right? Got some side work so it looks like I will have the funds for rounds and entrance fees (god willing and a shame I couldn't get the work prior to this match). So get ready for number 17 that will be coming in with probably around a 20 for a score

Ok so I have a question for those who are Phx people here real fast. Is a sunshade worth it in Phx? I have the ability to get one shipped for a good price and wondering if it is worth it and wondering if it helps in Phx where you constantly fight the sun. I do sometimes fight the sun badly when I shoot on BLM land so just wondering as I have never used one or had the chance to see the difference.

Smokin,

It all depends on the situation. I keep a 2" sunshade on my optic, but that doesn't mean it's alway required. If you've had to fight the sun, as you posted, then I'd say get one. One delta to a sun shade is it limits the light gathering if you're shooting in low light situations. If that's the case just screw it off and get to shootin'.

Well today is the day I should get paid for some side work and will be able to order just enough ammo to come out and play next month.

Got paid and the ammo is on the way! It is not top of the line ammo but a starting point to at least make it to the match to learn something! Saturday the 21st right? I might be even able to help on Friday as well. How long does setup take usually?

I might have to sight in so I might take you up on that one and help out. I am headed out this weekend for a little bit with some milt surrplus I found in on a shelf in the garage and get close since I only have a box maybe 2 of the good stuff to use for sight in. How many rounds will we need for the match and what is the starting range?

7 yards as in 21 ft? Seems rather close.... Why shoot that close with a rifle? (never participated in or attend a match so I am full of questions)

Because in practical precision shooting the entire exercise is to know how to utilise what you have. The shots inside what is considered "normal" rifle range teach the principle of mechanical offset, and needs to be know if you ever find yourself with a target down a hallway that is only presenting a few inches of target adjacent to something you may not want to hit with a bullet.
This priciple applies to carbines with high sight over bore measurements too.



Plus its fun and messes with people's heads

When you miss, from 21 feet, you'll know why. Never know when a target will "attack" you at close range. Mechanical offset...

there is a story of a US military sniper in Iraq going to set up a urban hide in a building that was supposed to be cleared. On his to a room, a hadji stepped out into the hallway and the sniper engaged at 7 yards with a kill shot. I'm sure he didnt try to use his scope and just point shot the dude.
