Finally got my hands on my new toy today. Stupid 3 day waiting period in FL. I gave her a couple modern touches, but I think she's still beautiful. Got some nice compliments at the range. First time at the range was this morning. I was shooting 5 round groups that were all about .75" . I need a little time to get used to the trigger (it's got a nice one though). I was also using a cheap crappy scope instead of the Bushnell Banner. The cheak rest is really nice too, but I mainly shoot lefty. I've been into bolt rifles for I don't even know how long. So having a semi-auto again was pretty fun. The strangest thing though is that it actually seems to have more recoil than my .17 HMR?? Weird. Anyway, here she is...

Thanks man. I love the stock. The size and shape of it is really cool to handle. Better than my cheapo Marlin factory plastic stock. But that is soon to be a tacticool stock.

My guess about the feeling of increased recoil is due to it being a semi-auto (probably gas operated?)

Re: Pics of the new Mossberg 151M

There are some real cool old mosbergs out there, last winter when I was out of work I passed up two old mosie target rifles with the swinging peep sight.
Well made and accurate, frowned on by the shooting public they sell cheap sometimes.
Nice one there Smallbore.

Very nice looking 151M. Those old Mossys are addictive, so be careful! You heard it here first.

The recoil on these rifles (I have 2 of them) does feel different and kind of slow. One interesting thing about this rifle is the way the bullet jumps into the chamber. If you haven't noticed it yet, slowly (and safely) cycle the action while looking into the ejection port and you will see the bullet propelled into the chamber instead of a slow lift and push like we are used to in bolt guns.

Anyway, good luck and enjoy your beauty.

Thanks! I'm doing all new bluing myself. I may have the wood stock restored too. I took it all apart and cleaned everything. Lubed it all cause it was bone dry. Works like a well oiled machine

I've never used one of these, (and it's great looking by the way) but I thought it would be recoil operated, and it probally feels like more recoil than the .17 because you are pushing a heavier bullet. 40 grain in leu of 17 grain. I could be wrong, and may my head be jumped on if I am, but trying to fish out the answer to what you asked.

Awesome rimfire. I think I want one now.
