Both brands are excellent pistols and you can't go wrong with either. The caliber debate is mute because a .45 or .40 will work 99% of the time.
To me personally, it makes sense to become an expert on one type of pistol. I just so happen to have picked Glocks. I have a 19, 32, 34, and will probably pick up a 21 at some point. You don't have to worry about different grips, grip angles, etc etc to train to. A Glock is a Glock, just like an M&P is an M&P. It'll feel more famliar in your hands. Plus I've become much more familiar and comfortable doing advanced maintenance on my Glocks because I've mostly stuck with just that one type.
So no, I don't think this is a bad thing at all.
