My 6ARC barrel is getting close to being done. When I ordered the barrel I made the conscious decision to build a gun for longer range shooting primarily if not exclusively on steel. 1,000 to 1,400 is generally going to be the range but I am confident that I can find more real estate to get past a mile if I ever wanted/needed to do that. I intentionally chose a 1:7 twist for my barrel on the grounds that I want to shoot heavy for caliber bullets.

I am fairly confident that I won't be able to push any bullet fast enough to cause a problem out of that twist rate. I erred on the side of more twist just because I could.

I am not interested so much in talking twist rates (other than to offer background information), but rather to focus on the actual projectiles that I may or may not want to be shopping for and people's experience with them.

It doesn't have to be specifically in the 6ARC. It can be in anything chambered in 6mm.

I am wondering if you all could help contribute to helping make a list of "available" (oxymoron there) 6mm bullets that fit my stated aim. The heaviest I know of are the 115grain DTAC. I've heard of some 112 grain Match Burners. I know Sierra has a 110 grain. Berger has a 109. I am sure there are a lot of 105's and 108's around as well. I am pretty sure I am leaving stuff out and/or am not aware of all the offerings. Typically I am looking in the 105 and up category.

I am very interested in hearing people's specific first hand experiences with said bullets whether it be good or bad.

A quick addition... In a normal time I would just buy a whole bunch of small boxes of bullets and just test them out. Considering though that buying pretty much anything now is backorder/waitlist only (or just getting lucky) I want to narrow my choices down to 3 or 4 options that I could reasonably pursue.

Not that I don't value all the opinions here, but I want to narrow down the list of what exactly I am going to need to chase down in the way of components.

I've used the following:

115 DTAC in 243, 6XC or 6 Creed
Berger 115 VLD in 243 and 6 Creed
112 Match Burner in 6XC or 6 Creed
Sierra 110 SMK in 243, 6XC or 6 Creed
Sierra 107 SMK in 243 and 6 Dasher
Hornady 108 ELDM in 6 Dasher
Hornady 105 BTHP in 6 Dasher
Nosler 105 RDF in 6 Dasher
Berger 105 Hybrid in 6 Dasher
I have Berger 108s and 109s on hand to test

The ones I have invested in (basically, I mean these are the ones i keep a large stockpile of) are the 115 DTACs, 112 Match Burners, 107 SMK, and 105 Hybrids. For me, these bullets have just performed consistently well, so they've earned my trust, so to speak.

Edit: The best "bang for the buck" bullet I've ever found has been the Hornady Match BTHP. No, the BC isn't sexy, but in both the 6mm 105 grain and the 6.5 140 grain, I've never found a rifle that didn't shoot them exceptionally well and before the current climate, you could find them for about $22 a box. I keep them on hand in 6.5, but I prefer the 105 Hybrids for my Dasher. I shoot the 112s and 115 DTACs in my 6XC and Creedmoor

I had a lot of good luck with the 110 SMK's out of my 6 Creed. Also, the 108 ELDM's have been great. Pushing both those projectiles around 2980.

I had to bite the bullet and get some 110 A-Tips, see how those shoot.

I've shot at least ~2k+ each of ELD-M108's and DTAC115's out of a few different barrels with a 6 creed. Both are great, but think I prefer the heavier/slower DTAC's @ ~2900fps over the ELD-M108's @ ~3000fps. I've also shot a bunch of the Hornadt BTHP105's and inside 800 they're just fine IMHO. I don't have anything scientific to back it up, but the DTAC's seem to do better in the wind when shooting past 600 for me. YMMV.

Never had one, but IIRC 6mmARC would be a compressed load at ~26gr of Varget for ~2500fps... So even though I tend to prefer a heavier bullet, I'm used to running them with ~15 more grains of powder behind them. In a 6mmARC I might be more tempted to roll with 105's like the Hybrid's or the Hornady BTHP's going for more speed due to limited powder capacity...

With a fast twist, you could consider a copper solid. 95gn PVA Senecas have shot wonderfully for me - you can push them pretty quick without pressure, and they are extremely consistent bullet to bullet, lot to lot. I'm not sure if they keep them on hand or turn them to order - but PVA usually ships them out within two days of ordering.

Thanks for the responses so far. I have been really busy so I haven't been able to respond yet. So far it looks like I have my work cut out for me. I just need to pick a few and go with it.
