POF & GAP 10 rail look exactly the same

Re: POF & GAP 10 rail look exactly the same

Hogan made them for POF to start with, then I think POF sends them to GAP. POF and Hogan have been in some disagreement/legal battle here lately but POF claims it will not affect their deal with GAP. That's all I know (or think I know)

Re: POF & GAP 10 rail look exactly the same

I was just wondering if any one has put them side by side and also compared the inner specs, I was wondering if the DI system and the piston system are interchangeable, just to keep options open for the owners of both GAP and POF boom sticks.

My opinion....screwing with the inner workings of the GAP10 can only make it unreliable. Its about as perfect as you can make a Gas Gun at this point.

Re: POF & GAP 10 rail look exactly the same

What about a POF which is what I have. I mean it's good a keep an open avenue just incase parts get a little hairy in the future. I mean in theory it's the same shell so the only differences should be the the BCG and the gas and piston setup. If any one in the Northern California has a GAP I would be willing to meet up. I just want to be able to put some solid info out there for owners of both weapon systems.

Why do you dislike the way the rails look? I think, and I am pretty sure, that practicality is more important than aesthetics on a rifle. Do you need every space available on a full tactical rail for attachments? Also, you can go with the ArmaLite SASS if you don't like the rail.

Yes we can swap out the barrel gas system and BCG, and you will have yourself a gap10.

Due to the unique way the POF upper receiver and handguard mate up the POF hunter/sniper rail is that only handguard that works with the system

I like the more traditional look of rounder lower profile rails. Not a oblong rail looking thing and puts the sights even higher. I just don't see how the Hogan/POF is any more practical then all the other rail systems out there. And the Armalite SASS are questionable in terms of repeated accuracy. Plus they just look cheap.

That makes sense. But can you use another upper and use something like a DD Lite rail?

Re: POF & GAP 10 rail look exactly the same

Bacarrat, I am guessing that you have not actually picked up a POF because they are definitely not cheap rails. They are pretty damn strong and it seems that you are misinformed. I would not sway your opinion if you think it looks terrible, but they are not cheap and it seems a subjective opinion rather than an objective opinion.

Unfortunately the pof lowers we use only fit pof uppers. i think your best option would be to have us build you a complete armalite based rifle using a DD lite rail.

Re: POF & GAP 10 rail look exactly the same

I suppose if there was a plus to the POF rail on the GAP10 that gets largely lost on its owners it would be this...

I don't care who makes the AR10 platform...every one that's designed with a precision role in mind is an artillery piece. They're big and they're heavy, particularly when sporting the type of optic required for long range work. As a result, most people don't shoot them off-hand, against trees, rocks, rooftops, slung, etc. They put bipods on them and shoot them from a bench or comfortably from a mat. Who want's to scratch it right?

You really cant appreciate the shape and lack or rails until you have to become the rest. It's still a heavy piece but it's "tossable" for a large precision auto. To me its one of the GAP-10's most impressive features. The shape and size of the rail makes it seem/handle smaller than it is.

The older POF style rail, the Predator rail system, was bulky and even if you have large hands it doesn't really fit in your hands all that well. The HSR rail is just perfect, in my opinion, and you have the picatinny mounts exactly where they're needed.

I couldn't agree more. Take anything out there with full rails and lock yourself into it with a sling and you'll quickly be wishing for a pair of bunny slippers and a warm bath. Not so with this rail. I don't need to mount my cell phone to it...I need it to hold the bare necessities needed to engagege targets at various distances out to 1K yards and leave room for whatever I decide to do with my off hand. There is no other purpose to the forend. This rail design is freakin' brilliant.

Re: POF & GAP 10 rail look exactly the same

My experiences with the Predator rail system is what has largely influenced my dislike for the POF based systems. It sounds like it has been improved but....I still find it hard to give up my reservations.

Re: POF & GAP 10 rail look exactly the same

For those that had expressed dislike for the GAP-10 rail, I do believe GAP now offers these in two different lengths. That may or may not help your aesthetic concern.
