I am a 39 year old male, six foot tall and 250lbs. I got a Polar FT4 watch for xmas. I walked 3 miles on my treadmill and my average heart rate was 120, i believe. The watch says i burned approximately 800 calories. Could this be correct?
I'm 44 and 185#. I burn 145 calories per mile running 10 minute miles. The calories per mile doesn't change much based on pace, so I'd burn only a few less if I were walking. I'd say you watch is off by almost a factor of 2.
I checked with one online calculator, and assuming you were walking 4mph, it predicts 425 calories for you.
