Seems to be a good many to choose from. I recently traded my IOR 10x to a friend for a Christmas present for his son. Wouldn't take anything thing for that, he is one very happy young man. But I miss my glass and want another or something similar. I love the simplicity of the fixed power scopes.

So I would like some feedback on your favorite and why. The Unertl 10x won't make my list for consideration because it or it's clone is not withing my purchasing power.

Scopes I would like to consider (in no particular order) are the:

US Optics ST-10 (varying configurations)
IOR 10x42
S&B 10x42 PMII
Leupold MK 4 10x40 M3
SS 10x HD

That's all I can think of off the top of my head. Any others feel free to chime in. Of course, I've had some experience with the IOR and like it a lot. Same with the USO. Looked through a S&B once too and it was impressive. But I'm most curious about the other two. I hear good things about both of them and wasn't the Leupold actually used on the M24?

Also, if you've owned or used more than one, rank what you've experienced.

Thanks,

Paul

Re: Poll and Feedback on fixed 10x.

I just got the ST-10 and recently had my first competition with it. I got the mil-scale reticle and #3 turret and couldn't be happier with it. I have been behind a SSHD and it is a great scope but the jump from it to the USO is very noticeable. I could easily leave my focus ring on 100 yards and the images were just as clear as much higher priced scopes. The clicks are clean and crisp and I have plenty of elevation in the turret and the reticle makes it so I could just use hold over for a whole match if I wanted.

If you want to go mil/mil there is one ithe for sale section now for 900.00.

BTW the ergo isn't necessary but it's a nice feature to have when engaging past 800.

Good luck,
Merritt

Re: Poll and Feedback on fixed 10x.

haha , i wish you were my buddy

i dont understand why you want a fix power scope , some of the glass your looking at is pretty expenisve , there are some variable power leupold scopes that have FFP's that are about in your price range

the sightron SIII 10x,16x,20x scopes seem nice , around 500 bucks , half the price of most of the scopes your looking at. You could buy two and give me one for christmas

For 80% of the time your right, everything in the 500.00 price range will work great, but I can tell you from experience in bad condition days the extra you pay on glass is worth every penny.

Good luck,

Re: Poll and Feedback on fixed 10x.

Ive got a regular SS 10x and its great. I did upgrade to a USO varible, but for a budget fixed scope the SS 10x is tops. Comparing it to my USO which is eight times the price, the turrets clicks on the SS are better. I dont know why but my T-pal turret clicks are a little mushy and are not audible at all. The focus for the SS goes down to 20 yrds compared to the USO which goes down to 50yrds. The turrents on the SS are very tall compared to the USO. Just compared both at night, the USO is a lot brighter, even with the ARD on the USO.
I guess I really do need to post a review of both. Hope this helps.

Re: Poll and Feedback on fixed 10x.

Currently the S&B and ST-10 are tied. That's really interesting since I would bet that ST-10 ownership around here is probaby 10 to 1 over S&B.

Me too.

Sightron SIII. I owned one once but was not overly impressed.

I like the 10x because they're simple, they are very durable and there are less lenses. Variables that approach this standard are pretty expensive.

Re: Poll and Feedback on fixed 10x.

I think the verdict on you will get from many is that for the money, the SWFA SSx10 models are a great deal especially for the money. I will have my non-HD model here tomorrow, but I won't be allowed to open it until christmas.

Re: Poll and Feedback on fixed 10x.

Dont know what you intend to put this on or what range you think you will be shooting at but I think the PM2 10X may have considerably less internal elevation than the ST-10 with the EREK.

Another thing is the PM2 10X is only available with a standard mildot...its damn near 2012 theres better options now days.

Re: Poll and Feedback on fixed 10x.

The S&B 10X is an incredible scope however the USO has many more options. It's too bad the IOR doesn't have mil knobs.

That 900 dollar USO in the optics section is a very good deal if it's still there. I think it had adj parallax and 10mil elevation knob.

Re: Poll and Feedback on fixed 10x.

I voted for the SS because that is whay I have and love. Never even seen any of the others he had listed. But I don't see how you could go wrong with any of the scopes on his list.

Re: Poll and Feedback on fixed 10x.

Voted for "other" to list the IOR 10x56, the 42mm is nice enough but in a side by side resolution/brightness comparo
with any of the other scopes it is the one that I would bet on.

-owned an early SS10x- nice -shoulda kept it but tracking was suspicious-could have been me
-used an ST-10 for awhile on a friends' rifle-nice but overhyped imho.
-traded into/out of IOR 10x42-nice -shoulda kept it
-want to check out a S&B

currently saving to buy another IOR 10x56-

Re: Poll and Feedback on fixed 10x.

If you can even consider USO optics, I don't know why you wouldn't pull the trigger on this and buy it. The other scopes you list are good - I prefer USO. But it's like anything out there - personal preference

Re: Poll and Feedback on fixed 10x.

I have and use three different S&B 10X42 PMII's. Never had a problem with them and have put them through hell on my hunting rifles. I can't speak for the other scopes mentioned and probably never will be able to.....grin!

Re: Poll and Feedback on fixed 10x.

i looked through roseberrys 10x at the last comp and damn it was clear. so clear that it made me want to put one on a credit card. It was a very nice scope and the glass was great. We had an overcast day and it was bright and clear as anything else i looked through.

Re: Poll and Feedback on fixed 10x.

I have the S&B 10x and as mentioned it does not have as many options as the ST-10, but it had exactly the right options that I needed. And of course the glass is amazing and the construction like a tank.

Engaged and hit out to 1165 last weekend. On 12"x12" plates.

Good luck,

I do quite frequently as well, 10x and 8x scopes.

Re: Poll and Feedback on fixed 10x.

I use a 15x right now and have been considering a 10x in order to get a better more rugged scope. I peronsally have been looking at the IOR variable. Do any of you own one or have used one?

Re: Poll and Feedback on fixed 10x.

Out of those choices, I say USO. Good enough glass with all the features you want, and tough. Price is more reasonable than S&B.
Super Sniper is OK if that's all you can afford.

Re: Poll and Feedback on fixed 10x.

Wow. The results thus far are interesting. The ST-10 is leading by one vote over the SS 10x HD. I continue to hear good things about the SS HD scope.

Bringing up 3rd is the S&B 10x42 that doesn't get a lot of playing time around here but the IOR 10x42, no love. Leupy is a distant 4th.

Re: Poll and Feedback on fixed 10x.

Not sure if y'all can see the results, so here they are as of 12/27/11

Fixed 10x Optics
Only one choice allowed (117 total votes)
USO ST-10 - 33 (28%)
IOR 10x42 - 4 (03%)
S&B 10x42 - 24 (21%)
Leupold MK 4 10x40 M3 - 17 (15%)
Super Sniper 10x HD - 35 (30%)
Other (please list) - 4 (03%)

Lot's of love out there for the SS 10x HD. I knew the USO would do well but I wasn't sure how the rest would pan out. Thanks for the input gentlemen. Any that would like to vote, feel free.

Re: Poll and Feedback on fixed 10x.

Paul, kinda surprised how few votes the IOR got, fortunately you know how good the glass is on these scopes. I have to honestly compare it with the S&B, I also own two NF, a NXS 2.5-10x24 and a NXS 12-42x56, but the IOR wins out for clarity. All the above scopes are excellent choices, but sometimes as you mention the budget has a bearing on what the heart wants compared to what the pocket has. I will mention though, that having used my fixed power IOR for many years, I have to move on and buy a variable. After my last match the flexiblity the variable would have provided would have probably gotten me a few more points.

I agree. I think the IOR has fallen out of favor because the turret and reticle are mismatched and that's a shame because the glass is outstanding.

Re: Poll and Feedback on fixed 10x.

I've been debating between a new IOR 10x42 and a used USO ST-10 for a little while. I'm about to buy the IOR. I'm used to MOA turrets and it seems like the best way to spend my money.

Yeah, if you can handle the turret/reticle situation, then it's the best choice IMO. Glass is superb.

Re: Poll and Feedback on fixed 10x.

Well the Super Sniper HD continues to widen the margin. Vote total to date, 134.

USO ST-10 - 36 (27%)
IOR 10x42 - 7 (05%)
S&B 10x42 - 28 (21%)

Super Sniper 10x HD - 41 (31%)
Other (please list) - 5 (4%)

Re: Poll and Feedback on fixed 10x.

I have an IOR fixed 10 x 42 and is a very nice scope for the dollar . Can usually be had for around 750 new if you look around . Tracks spot on and has been durable up to this point . MP 8 is my favorite reticle , not too cluttered up and easy to use . Only gripe is MOA turret adjustment . I think adjustments should match the reticle .
