Pipeline Inspection Drone?

Several FAA authorizations have been issued for Beyond Line of Sight and Autonomous drones for pipeline inspection. LIDAR and Thermal being used in these. They fly low. Some have a range of up to 40 miles.

Then where the hell are they coming from and returning to????? Do we no longer have radar available??? Send up an Apache helicopter and follow it back to it's origin.... Such BS!!!! If I flew my DJI drone near my local FAA restricted space they'd be kicking my door down in about 20 minutes.

It is an authorized/permitted flight. Otherwise, they would be gone as they are flying over critical areas. The question that evidently will not be answered is who is piloting and what the purpose is. Everyone is assuming that the USG wants to bring them down and is helpless to do so, that does not appear to be the case. Anyone remember the silent drone swarms over the western states a while back that nobody could figure out but nothing was officially done to stop them?

There are multiple reasons this could be occurring. Not all of them are nefarious. USG takes unauthorized flights fucking seriously. I'm going to hold off judgement until some more info comes out.
