We are in the same boat. Sister (trans kid mom) did get uterine cancer, but no relapse yet. I am not part of any family interaction. They occasionally call separately when they need a dose of reality from the borderlands of society.

From the (limited) info available this looks like a highly mutated strain of virulent influenza like 1918 and 1969 that suddenly crossed over into humans from latency in an animal host pool and it will take several rounds of interacting with the human genome before the strain adapts, reduces it's potency, and gradually fades into the background noise of all the other flu strains circulating around... Exactly 4 years ago we watched this same situation unfold. Shit is literally like a fever dream...
