I work in a hospital, level 1 trauma center.
We see these mental health patients all the time in there as M1 mental holds. Some nights we have 6-8 of them in the ED and we have to divert a lot of staff in order to watch these patients. It's sickening.
I am a hospital wide critical care tech. I have to interact with a lot of these patients and their stories are always the same. They are suicidal because of this or that.
None of these people can exist and function in the real world.

In the summer of '69 I interned at the AZ State Hospital (mental hospital) teaching patients for their GED. I watched some of this maniacs videos and I swear I was back walking through the men's psych ward.
Those memories have haunted me my entire life. It never made sense when all these facilities were closed down because 'we need to mainstream them into society'. In they past they were safe and we were safe. Now noone is safe.

Well, P^2, I think this happened under Reagan. Though, some of those facilities were maybe a half-step above mid-evil torture chambers. That said, these people are running loose now...Many, or most, with brains fried from drugs (illegal and "legal").

Not sure "who" destroyed the US mental health system and specifically the mental health facilities that housed the mentally ill; but the mentally ill need to be institutionalized and not roaming the streets or in some kind of residential setting.

my memory of the previous system is vague. i do remember that as of the early70s anyway,FL had 3 or 4 psych hospitals each had > 1K patients as i recall. i remember an LPN that i worked with as an orderly that he said he was a night charge nurse at 1. that was eye opening in a way as an LPN in charge of 1K beds was strange to me at the time. all the other workers were obviously unlicensed. what the hiring,work,retention practices were was a mystery. there were all kind of stories floating around about events in those places. who was there,what were they in for,how long,admission and discharge criterion,violent types there,security? while reestablishment of such a system might be best but what an undertaking!

Again, I ask all the fed’s watching this board….why NO prosecutions? People need to be charged as traitors, sedition, and whatever else. Death penalty should be on the table for all. And, we pass a law only death by hanging or perhaps some form of 16th century death penalty.

Care for the mentally ill is not profitable, so there is no large scale treatment/confinement for them. Interestingly enough, many of them wind up in the criminal justice system clogging up courts and prisons.
