Several Decades ago in Japan (which has like intelligent people who read directions), having UV lamps in the kitchen and bathroom that you turned on at night was a common thing. You just knew that when you got up, keep your eyes on the floor until you hit the off switch.

Some stores here have been doing the UV light stuff on shopping carts here. Walk up to a cart outside, place it in a metal box from hot topic for 30 seconds, and then go in the store. Been that way at a few places since last summer.
