Hunting & Fishing Post your SMK/Match bullet kills

Dude, I hadn't noticed the spine. What happened there lol?
I don’t know. He had a huge gash on his back. A bit of necrosis in the back strap on that side, and it went to the bone. But he was otherwise healthy…

It really is amazing that we are all surprised and interested when we kill injured critters. It's a dangerous world out there and surprisingly few end up with these sort of injuries. I have put down a few critters with injuries, a couple on purpose because of them. I shot a fawn whitetail last year who could hardly walk. I don't know how she was still evading coyotes. She had gotten some sort of injury to her right side. The front leg that she wasn't using was literally just bone and ligament. Almost zero muscle on the front shoulder. The back right leg wasn't much better. She would almost fall with every step. I watched her for about 20 seconds and couldn't take it anymore. The bull elk I killed this year had a gnarly wound Im pretty positive was from fighting on his back. It was so fresh that at first I was trying to figure out how my bullet would have exited there.

Who knows what happened to this guy. Could have been a predator, a human or just life in the wild. Its amazing how tough critters are and how well they make it with no medical care.

I was surprised I didn't catch it in the first picture the first time I saw it. I'm not surprised that's actually a thing out in the wild. Seen it first hand multiple times.

My guess is head shot attempt, that instead went through right ear and clipped the back.
I started to point out that the hole through the ear looks healed, and might’ve happened from a separate and earlier incident, but after thinking about it, I doubt that back wound would’ve ever healed, so it probably happened exactly as you said.

@hlee did him a favor.
