Any opinions on powder coat for a gun finish? I have an old Rem 870 I'm doing as a short barrel shotgun and it's UGLY. Was trying to figure out my options and powder coating seems like a good option. Just going to do the receiver, mag tube and maybe the bolt.

Re: Powder coating

Powder coating is pretty thick. I've seen it done on a wild looking IPSC Remy 1100, but I would opt for cerakote or guncoat first unless you have a crazy color scheme in mind that PC only can do.

Re: Powder coating

Recently tried the whole powder coating thing. Had my brother in law do up a Redi-mag in black for my AR. Less than two weeks later I took it to a Larry Vickers Carbine course. It was chipped and wearing through by the end of it. Still looks ok for the most part, just worn. My advice is to save your time and just duracoat/ceracoat it.

They make a do it at home Parkerizing kit.
You buy the kit and get some wallpapering trays a thermometer and do it your self in an afternoon.
I used it to fix a scratch on a rifle, and turned real well.
