Powder Dispencer recommendation

I'm really thinking about reloading again. Looking to load .308 175gr so I'm looking for a good accurate powder dispenser.

Some I've looked at and would like comment on are the Redding Model 3BR or the BR-30.
The other one I looked at is the Hordany LnL. I like the fact that it weighs the powder. I think this is more accuracte. I know it's not without some issues but again, I like the fact that it weighs the powder.

BTW, planning on using Varget powder.

Thanks for any help.

Re: Powder Dispencer recommendation

No powder throw in the world measures powder by weight, they are all simply are a volumetric chamber, adjust the metering screw for more or less powder, for short range inside 300 yards a decent powder throw such as the Reddings will do just fine, beyond that for accurate long range ammo a powder scale is required.

I use a Harrell's premium powder measure:

and a RCBS Chargemaster:

I use the Chargemaster the most because it weighs the charge plus, I can be seating a bullet while it is doing it's thing. I also use varget most often and after thousands of rounds the Chargmaster has been accurate and you can even reprogram it to dispense a charge faster than it comes from the factory. Love it!

I have read an awful lot about the Harrells and there are those whom swear that a metered charge is more accuate that a weighed charge. I like the Harrell's but I do quite a bit of shooting and the chargemaster elliminates a step and is just faster. Both are more accurate than I am so I go with speed.

Good Luck!

rcbs got their designs from an older model of a different brand, I cannot think of it off the top of my head, but it works great. I use the older version before rcbs got ahold of it and with mine, there is a lag phase because it does not do an initial dump and then slow down like the newer model does, but I still fly when doing powder measures, so I am sure that this guy is crazy fast and they are accurate up to a hundredth of a grain i think.

I really don't know because I don't have any experience with any thing other than the RCBS, Harrell's and a Dillon digital scale. It's been a couple of years ago but when I got my Chargemaster, I did a lot of research and asked questions on this and some other sites and it seemed that the overwhelming favorite was the Chargemaster.

Check these out:

Now here is where I would like to get to:

Someone mentioned above that the the Chargemaster was accurate to 1/100th of a grain. That is incorrect, (No disrespect) it is only good to 1/10th of a grain. The prometheus is a whole different animal. Someday...

Re: Powder Dispencer recommendation

I just started reloading rifle rounds. I throw powder into my pistol rounds. For rifle I just spoon it close and trickle up. Smidge slower than a manual powder throw. Just an idea till you get what ya want.

Re: Powder Dispencer recommendation

I haven't written a full comparrison becasue I'm waiting for my Pact to come back from Texas. It made an odd noise and quit working right. Waranty work and waiting for it to come back.

Time wise; my pact took about 45 minutes to throw 50 weighed rounds, for throwing a round and trickling it up with an RCBS manual trickler it's about 40 minutes to do 50, with the Omega powder trickler it's about 35 for 50. The powder weight was 24 grains of Varget. I only did the manual run once and haven't ran all three under the same conditions because the Pact is not in my bench.

I don't. At this point I'm doing my research on what to get.

I had a Super 1050 a while back and got rid of it. I was loading 5.56 and .45 but I just didn't use it.

Now I'm tired of trying to find a round that does everything I want it to do. I want the accuracy of a corbon or better and the MV of a 178gr Hornady Superformance and that's not easy to find and not easy on the wallet either. I just makes sense for me to go back to loading and just build the round I want. It'll be cheaper, and I can get all the accuracy I need.

DCR,
I was thinking about that. I still have my Dillon digital scale. I imagine I can still use that to weigh what I need. Not fast but better than nothing and it should be accurate, which is the important thing.
